In Apple TV+’s Hijack, a security guard jokes that nothing interesting ever happens on the U5 subway line. He’d be surprised! After Season 1 focused on a plane hijacking involving Sam Nelson (Idris Elba), the new season moves the action underground. This time, Sam is involved in a hijacking of a U-Bahn train in Berlin – specifically on the U5 route – but with a twist: he’s leading it. He’s being forced to comply with a hijacking plan because someone is threatening his ex-wife, Marsha (Christine Adams), if he doesn’t.
Sam needs to take the train to the last stop, where he’ll trade the hostages for John Bailey-Brown, the man who planned the plane hijacking in Season 1. Bailey-Brown is also responsible for the death of Sam’s son, Kai. This means Sam has to help free the man who killed his son in order to save his ex-wife.
The second-to-last episode of Season 2 reveals that Robert Lang (Arsher Ali), an MI5 agent, is the mastermind behind the hijacking. He’s working with Stuart Atterton (Neil Maskell), who attempted to hijack a plane in Season 1 but was stopped by Sam. Atterton has been seeking revenge ever since and has been plotting Sam’s ruin while in prison.

Okay, so the season finale really brought things to a head. That train, packed with hostages, finally stopped, and the exchange was about to happen. Our hero, Sam, managed to get a lot of people off safely, but there were still over a hundred souls trapped on board. What’s really weighing on Sam, though, is Marsha. We haven’t gotten any word on her condition, and she’s still being hunted by Atterton’s people. Despite all that, and with a lot of hesitation, Sam decided to start releasing the remaining passengers, one by one. It was a tense move, to say the least.
Everyone escaped unharmed, but the exchange felt off. Bailey-Brown, the man they risked everything to free, appeared confused, hinting that he was also being manipulated by Lang and Atterton. It seemed Atterton had orchestrated the hijacking not just to eliminate Sam, but also Bailey-Brown – effectively erasing any remaining connection to the earlier Kingdom hijacking and solidifying his control over the Cheapside Firm, a powerful London-based criminal organization.
Lang is holding the detonator and brought Bailey-Brown onto the train, which Sam sees as a chance to act. Sam figures Lang won’t detonate the bomb, allowing him to subdue Lang, save himself and the train driver, Otto (Christian Näthe), and finally confront Bailey-Brown about his son Kai’s death. Surprisingly, Bailey-Brown laughs and denies killing Kai, revealing that Lang fabricated the story to manipulate Sam into hijacking the train.
Marsha quietly returned to the cabin and built a large fire outside, hoping to signal the rescue helicopter. Unfortunately, the fire also caught the attention of the two men who were trying to capture her. Luckily, the helicopter arrived just in time, before the men could reach Marsha. They surrendered, and Marsha was finally safe.

Lang exited the train and moved to a safe spot before setting off the explosive. Sadly, Bailey-Brown was still on board and died in the blast, but Otto and Sam both survived. Lang mistakenly believed everyone had perished.
Lang called Atterton, who was in prison and using a hidden phone, to report that Bailey-Brown and Sam had both been killed. Atterton was furious Lang had contacted him – he reminded Lang they had an established communication protocol – but he didn’t end the call. Unbeknownst to Atterton, the police were listening to the entire conversation through a wiretap in his cell. This provided solid proof linking both Lang and Atterton to the hijacking in Berlin. Lang then demanded more money and a secure escape from Berlin, knowing the police were now aware of his involvement. However, before he could finish discussing this with Atterton, he realized Sam, who he believed was dead, was now pursuing him.
Lang manages to escape outside, but Sam chases after him. They quickly encounter German police and Faber. Faber yells that Lang’s run is over, but Lang defiantly refuses to surrender, unlike Sam who immediately complies. Lang receives a call from Atterton, and tells Sam that Atterton will never give up. The police give Lang one last warning: move and they’ll shoot. Realizing he’s trapped, Lang tries to answer the phone, and is fatally shot by the police.
Police subdue Atterton, and Detective O’Farrell, Marsha’s boyfriend, enjoys telling him that Marsha and Sam are both safe. This means Atterton’s scheme completely failed. He yells threats and boasts about himself as officers hold him down, but his words ring empty after another failed attempt. It’s clear Atterton is defeated, and he likely won’t be attempting any more hijackings.
In the final moments of the episode, Faber stands over Lang’s body, admitting he was consumed by his own focus and failed to see Faber’s deception. Sam echoes this sentiment, acknowledging his own blindness. Both men have a lot to come to terms with after the events in Berlin, particularly Sam, who has now survived two incredibly dangerous hijackings. Fortunately, the season ends with a sense of hope. Sam is reunited with Olivia, who returns his phone and assures him that Marsha is safe. He then speaks to his ex-wife, who is overjoyed to hear he’s alright, and tells Marsha he’s on his way to her, bringing the season to a close.
