Owen Cooper has had a remarkable year. Just under a year after the release of Adolescence on Netflix, he became the youngest male actor to win both a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a television series. He also recently made his feature film debut in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which has become the highest-grossing English-language film of 2026 so far.
He’s reaching another milestone by becoming the youngest player ever to participate in the Soccer Aid charity football match.
This year marks the 20th time Robbie Williams has held his annual event, which has successfully raised more than £121 million for UNICEF UK.
So far, over 30 celebrities will be playing in Soccer Aid, and many are making their first appearance. New players include actor Damon Idris (from F1: The Movie), rugby star Joe Marler (known from The Celebrity Traitors), GK Barry and Jordan North from I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and Nitro from Gladiators, alongside Cooper.
Cooper expressed his excitement about participating in Soccer Aid for UNICEF, especially as this year marks the event’s 20th anniversary. He jokingly noted he wasn’t even alive when the first Soccer Aid was held, but is still a huge supporter.

It’s a huge honour to be the youngest player participating, and I’m really looking forward to playing at London Stadium on May 31st. The event supports a fantastic cause, raising money to help children be safe, healthy, and have the chance to play, and I’m proud to be involved.
Idris described playing as a lifelong dream, and GK Barry playfully predicted she wouldn’t perform well, even with training from her professional footballer girlfriend, Ella Rutherford.
Olly Murs returns after taking some time off for knee surgery, Usain Bolt is now managing the World XI team for the first time, and Angryginge is back to defend his title as last year’s Man of the Match.

I’m so excited about the World XI team they’re putting together! So far, we’ve got Usain Bolt as the manager, which is amazing, and Edwin van der Sar in goal – a legend! The rest of the lineup looks incredible too, with players like Jordi Alba, Maisie Adam, Jen Beattie, Leonardo Bonucci, Richard Gadd, Ali Krieger, Gladiator Nitro, and Big Zuu. What a team!
Here’s the list of players and celebrities announced for the England team: Robbie Williams (manager), Joe Hart, Joe Marler, Paddy McGuinness, GK Barry, Alex Brooker, Owen Cooper, Jermain Defoe, Toni Duggan, Angryginge, Tom Grennan, Tom Hiddleston, Steph Houghton, Damson Idris, Olly Murs, Jordan North, Wayne Rooney, Jill Scott, Sam Thompson, and Theo Walcott.
Dermot O’Leary and Alex Scott will be hosting the broadcast, with Sam Matterface providing commentary. To mark the special occasion, there will also be a longer-than-usual half-time show.
Soccer Aid returns on Sunday, May 31st, 2026, at the London Stadium. You can watch the game on ITV1, ITVX, and in Scotland on STV and the STV Player. Tickets are now on sale, and all money raised will go to UNICEF UK.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-color 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
