Finn Balor is, in my opinion, among the most talented wrestlers today. He’s known for founding the Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling, making NXT incredibly popular, and becoming the first-ever WWE Universal Champion – proving he consistently delivers exciting matches. Despite all this, WWE hasn’t fully committed to giving him a long run as one of their top champions. He’s famous for his spectacular entrances, but a dominant championship reign hasn’t materialized.
Just under two weeks before the Royal Rumble, Finn Balor wrestled CM Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in his home country of Ireland. While he didn’t win, Balor had one of his best performances in a long time, and it made me realize WWE should capitalize on his momentum now!
Was His Match Against CM Punk A One-Off In Front Of An Irish Crowd, Or A Sign Of Things To Come?
I’m cautiously optimistic about Finn Balor potentially becoming a main contender for the championship again, but I’ve seen this happen before. Wrestling companies often give local favorites a title shot to boost attendance, only to have them lose and fade into the background. I’m hoping WWE isn’t just using Balor’s Irish roots to sell tickets with this championship match, and that this is a genuine sign he’s headed for bigger things.
The main event match featuring the Judgment Day member on Raw was truly entertaining and showcased the skills of two experienced performers. It had a good flow, with moments where either wrestler seemed likely to win, and ultimately left both competitors looking strong. However, I’m still unsure how to feel about the future. While the match was great, I’m worried Finn Balor might end up back in less prominent, multi-person matches next week. As they say, you have to hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.
It’s Well Past Time For WWE To Give Balor A Run
Finn Balor is still in incredible shape, but he’ll be turning 45 this year. While 40 is often considered the new 30, time is passing, and WWE needs to give him a significant push. In fact, it’s long overdue for Balor to have a run as either WWE Champion or World Heavyweight Champion.
He’s proven himself as a fantastic NXT Champion multiple times and excels in rivalries, so let’s give him a meaningful run. Bringing back his popular ‘Demon’ persona would be a huge crowd-pleaser. He’s a world-class wrestler, and it would be a shame to see him limited to a brief, undefended Universal Championship reign like he was previously denied. Triple H, please make this happen!
It remains to be seen what WWE has in store for Finn Balor, but I’m a fan and will be supporting him no matter what. I’ll definitely be celebrating—and mimicking his entrance—if he wins a championship, whether as himself or as The Demon!
