If you enjoy mysteries, you can easily binge-watch the captivating miniseries, The Undoing, in a weekend. HBO Max has a huge selection of excellent miniseries, and it’s easy to get lost scrolling through them – you might stumble upon a show with a famous actor that you didn’t even know existed!
HBO Max has a lot of limited-series dramas, and many of them fall into the suspenseful psychological mystery category, much like The Undoing. It’s a well-loved type of show, and if you haven’t seen The Undoing yet, it’s worth watching if you enjoy a story that unfolds gradually.
The Undoing Is A Six-Episode Psychological Mystery Miniseries on HBO Max
The Undoing is a limited series mystery starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as Grace and Jonathan Fraser, a wealthy and successful couple in New York City. Just before a school fundraiser, their lives are disrupted by encounters with Elena (Matilda De Angelis), the mother of a young boy.
Elena acted oddly towards Grace, making several unsettling comments and gestures. The next day, Elena was found murdered in her studio. Because Grace was the last person known to have seen Elena alive, the police questioned her. While speaking with the police, Grace suddenly noticed Jonathan, who had left on a business trip the night before, hadn’t contacted her.
The Undoing Is A Fantastic Slow-Burn Psychological Story
As a critic, I have to say The Undoing is a truly gripping psychological thriller. It’s the kind of miniseries that really gets under your skin, and I was honestly kept guessing about what was really going on right up to the final moments. The whole cast is phenomenal – Noah Jupe, Lily Rabe, Édgar Ramírez, and Donald Sutherland all deliver strong performances. But Nicole Kidman? She’s the one who really shines, perfectly balancing a captivating charm with a subtle, unsettling darkness. It’s a masterclass in nuanced acting.
This show unfolds gradually, revealing details of Grace’s life and slowly creating a sense of unease as her carefully constructed world begins to crumble. The Undoing keeps you constantly questioning who to trust – one minute you’re on Grace’s side, the next you’re doubting her, and the same goes for her husband, Jonathan. Throughout it all, the series portrays a deeply troubled and deteriorating marriage.
The Undoing’s Mystery Plot Won’t Leave You Disappointed
Despite being only six episodes long, The Undoing takes its time building suspense without feeling drawn out. As the mystery of the murder and the characters’ true natures slowly unfold, viewers are immersed in a detailed and compelling world – a cold, privileged society that offers little compassion.
The central question of The Undoing – who killed Elena – drives each episode. The show skillfully shifts focus between subtle clues and direct confrontations, keeping you guessing without becoming confusing. This ultimately leads to a satisfying conclusion that lives up to the high quality of the series.
