Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard says she is ‘trying to disguise what I’m going through’ with breast cancer as she prepares for her ‘worst nightmare’ of a red carpet

Beverley Callard, known for her role on Coronation Street, has revealed she’s been hiding her struggle with breast cancer.

The 68-year-old actress, known for her work on soap operas, recently shared that she’s been diagnosed with an illness. This came shortly after she moved to Dublin to begin a new role on the Irish soap opera, Fair City.

Beverley shared on Instagram Tuesday that she’s dreading an upcoming red carpet event, calling it her ‘worst nightmare’.

Beverley enjoys acting, but she doesn’t like the parts of the job that involve dressing up and taking pictures.

She confessed that her anxiety has increased since her breast surgery, as she feels unbalanced. To ensure a dress she’d already intended to wear would fit her changed body, she hired a tailor for alterations.

Beverley explained she had the dress adjusted in an attempt to hide the physical effects of her cancer treatment.

In a video message, Beverley mentioned she likely needs to return to work for just two days, Sunday and Monday.

I’m doing promotion for a project I filmed a few months ago, and I’m really stressed about it. It involves a red carpet event with lots of photos, and anyone who knows me knows I absolutely dread those kinds of things.

I truly enjoy my work, especially the process of memorizing lines and developing a character. However, I absolutely dread having to stand and pose for photos on a red carpet.

It’s even more difficult now because I feel so unbalanced. I just had a dress altered, hoping to hide what’s going on and feel better about wearing it, but that’s made me even more anxious.

I know many will assume this is all about the red carpet and fancy outfits, but honestly, I actually prefer dressing like this normally. That’s just how it is.

I’m definitely feeling nervous and anxious about it, and I’m mostly just trying to get prepared.

Beverley also shared that she stepped away from social media to spend quality time with her husband, Jon McEwan, and focus on getting her energy back.

Just wanted to give you a quick update. I haven’t been posting lately because I’ve been feeling really tired and haven’t been my best. But honestly, all your kind messages reminding me to take some time for myself have meant a lot.

I’ve taken care of that, and it was nice for Jon and me to have some peaceful time together. It affects him as much as it does me, so it was really needed.

You know, today felt really good! I had a surprising burst of energy and treated myself to a nail appointment, which was lovely. But honestly, even though it was a nice little outing, I was completely wiped out as soon as I got home and just needed to relax – sometimes self-care is exhausting in itself, isn’t it?

Beverley finished her post by letting fans know she has a hospital appointment on Wednesday to see if she needs another operation.

I have another hospital appointment tomorrow morning, and I’m hoping to find out if I need another procedure. The appointment is at 9am, and I’ll have a better idea of what’s going on after that. I’m sending my love and gratitude for all your support.

Beverley shared last week that she was feeling unwell – experiencing soreness, nausea, and emotional distress – after her breast cancer surgery. She described the update as heartbreaking.

On Friday, the celebrity shared a touching story on X (formerly Twitter) about a kind gift she received from someone she didn’t know, and she became visibly emotional while talking about it.

Beverley explained that it had been a week since her surgery. She said she woke up and instinctively put on the clothes she’d worn the day before, which she’d left on the floor when she went to bed.

Honestly, I’m having one of those days where I just can’t seem to get it together. I haven’t even brushed my teeth or styled my hair. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t answer the phone – even a nice comment makes me burst into tears. Everything aches, I feel awful, and it’s been like this all day. I’m completely exhausted, a little nauseous, and I have no clue what’s brought it on.

Beverley explained she avoided social media the previous day because she didn’t want to bring others down with anything she might post.

She showed off some lovely gifts, including a heart-shaped pillow and a touching card she’d received in the mail from someone she didn’t know.

Beverley explained the cushion was meant to help with pain under her arm, and she became tearful as she shared her plan to give it away after she’d used it.
