After Jackie ‘O’ Henderson unexpectedly announced her departure from The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday, several well-known Australian personalities are now being discussed as possible hosts to take her place.
Sophie Monk, a well-known TV and radio personality at 46, is currently the favorite to land the role. She’s a regular guest on the KIIS FM show and has a long history in the entertainment industry.
Sophie is known for being genuine, playful, and not letting things bother her too much.
She has the right skills to potentially replace Kyle as host if he returns after his two-week break.
The show could also consider established radio personalities like Amanda Keller, Chrissie Swan, and Fifi Box, or even people from reality TV who are hoping to switch careers.
There’s been talk that if Kyle Sandilands doesn’t come back to the show, KIIS FM might replace him with a new pair of breakfast radio hosts.
It’s impossible to truly replicate a show as popular as Kyle and Jackie O. All you can do is try your best and hope listeners will be understanding and give the new program a chance,” said Craig Bruce, a former program director at 2DayFM during Kyle and Jackie’s time there, in an interview with MediaWeek.
‘It’s going to be a really high-risk, high-reward act for anyone to go in and be the next show.’
KIIS FM has asked Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small to temporarily host during the usual time for The Kyle & Jackie O Show. Kyle is currently suspended from the breakfast program for two weeks, and it’s uncertain if he’ll return after that.
Smallzy was surprised and upset on Wednesday morning to learn that The Kyle and Jackie O Show had ended.
Listeners heard from a fill-in host who announced things were changing at KIIS FM after the sudden departure of Jackie ‘O’ from the station’s popular breakfast show.
He went on to pay tribute to the radio stars.
I listened to KJ growing up, and I actually got my start in radio working with them on the Hot 30. I was the driver for the band, The Thunders. To land the job, I wasn’t entirely truthful about my experience – I was just really eager to get it!
‘They were very lovely and they were always very kind,’ he added.
ARN confirmed today that Henderson’s $100 million contract has been cancelled because she informed management she could no longer work with Kyle Sandilands. This decision follows Sandilands’ recent on-air remarks, which upset Henderson and brought her to tears.
Sandilands has been suspended and given 14 days to ‘remedy’ the breach, or else faces termination.
As a long-time listener, I was really shocked to hear that ARN sent Sandilands a formal notice. Apparently, they believe something he did on air on February 20th was a serious breach of their agreement with Quasar Media – basically, really bad behaviour that broke the rules of their contract.
ARN has offered Henderson the possibility of an alternative show on the network.
Daily Mail has reached out to Henderson and Sandilands for comment.
In 2023, Sandilands and Henderson agreed to a 10-year contract with Australian Radio Network (ARN), with eight years remaining on the deal.
In that historic deal, they reportedly received $200 million and earned around $47,000 for each episode.
Brendan Henderson, 51, hasn’t been on The Kyle & Jackie O Show since February 20th, after Karl Sandilands, 54, said she wasn’t concentrating enough at work.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! During their whole on-air fight, Henderson just completely lost it – started crying – when they brought up Prince Andrew. I mean, seriously, the tears were flowing! It was… intense, to say the least. I couldn’t look away, even though it was awful. It just showed how much this whole thing affected them, especially when Andrew’s name came up. I was absolutely glued to the screen!
Sandilands got angry at her when she proceeded to read out the disgraced royal’s birth chart.
He lambasted his co-star, claiming that her love for astrology was affecting her work.
An emotional Henderson said she was deeply ‘offended’ by his brutal comments during the clash.
She took time off work after the disagreement, and while she was scheduled to come back to the show on March 2nd, she ultimately didn’t.
