Season 2 of Paradise has fundamentally altered the show, centering on Xavier’s journey to find Teri in a post-apocalyptic America. After crashing his plane, Xavier is found and helped by Annie, a pregnant woman hoping to reach Colorado.

While recovering from an injury, Xavier and a new companion grow closer, and he persuades her to join him in Atlanta to search for Teri. They begin their journey, but a shocking discovery later in the episode leads to a main character’s death, throwing the show’s future into uncertainty.

Annie Dies In Paradise Season 2, Episode 4

While in Atlanta, Annie starts going into labor. Xavier, knowing they need help, leaves her at a waffle restaurant to find the other survivors they’d encountered on their journey, even though Annie is wary of strangers. He successfully gathers a group who assist with the delivery, and he stays by her side, holding her hand when their daughter is born.

Sadly, she died from blood loss after childbirth, and the group lacked the supplies needed to help her. Before she passed, she asked Xavier to protect her baby. Knowing the risks of childbirth, she had written a letter for Xavier to read to their child someday. She died peacefully in Xavier’s arms.

Annie’s Death Undoes Her Buildup From The Season 2 Premiere

While Annie’s death moves the story of Paradise season 2 forward, it unfortunately cuts short the careful development of her character, which started at the beginning of the season. The first episode showed how she first survived and how she connected with Link and Xavier. But by episode 4, her storyline is unexpectedly finished.

With her now gone, the impact of the initial hour-long episode feels lessened. While she did connect Xavier and Link through their shared connection to her, her part in the overall story was never meant to last. Xavier is now raising her child, but he remains focused on locating Teri in Atlanta and returning to Colorado, so her death hasn’t altered his goals.

How Annie Can Come Back In Paradise

Even though Annie is dead, there’s still a chance she could reappear in future episodes of Paradise. The show frequently uses flashbacks to reveal more of the story, which opens the possibility of seeing her again in some way. Plus, an episode in season 2—episode 4—suggested she might return through time travel.

Xavier discovered that Link is the person from his visions, suggesting Link is connected to Xavier’s future. Because Sinatra’s hidden project appears to involve time travel, the next season of Paradise might show Annie being saved from her death. But this will only happen if Link is actually heading to the bunker to dismantle the project, rather than something else.

Even if Annie reappears, it could reinforce her importance to the main storyline and explain the impact of her seemingly sudden death. With the second season of Paradise already halfway through, there are likely more surprises ahead that could lessen any risk her death posed to the show’s overall direction.
