Julia Vogl, who appeared on Married At First Sight, has revealed she’s now dating a woman after ending her marriage with Grayson McIvor.
The 35-year-old told Daily Mail on Tuesday that she’s feeling better than ever since finishing the show.
Julia shared that she met her current partner a few months after filming finished. She described it as a surprising connection that she didn’t see coming.
She told me she started dating someone about two months after the study finished, and that their relationship began in a really unexpected way.
Just like something out of the show, Julia explained it all began when her roommate started taking singing and guitar lessons with a woman, and Julia decided to join in on one of the lessons herself.
Julia explained that she felt an immediate connection with her singing teacher. ‘I just felt a spark,’ she said.
The connection grew slowly as Julia worked through the emotional aftermath of the show.
‘I stopped getting singing lessons from her because I didn’t want her to be my teacher,’ she added.
We began spending time together casually, and it took me a long time to process everything that happened during that period. Thankfully, we’re still a couple now.
Julia is speaking out after a difficult time on television, where she felt misrepresented and stressed as her brief marriage was publicly displayed.
Although the show included some hints of conflict, Julia says viewers didn’t see the complete story of why they split up. She specifically mentions a significant argument that, if shown, she thinks would have given the public a different understanding of what happened.
She explained the disagreement began because she was incredibly tired and couldn’t sleep while filming. She even mentioned staying awake for three nights straight, while her co-star, Grayson, slept soundly next to her.
‘I didn’t sleep for three nights in a row,’ Julia said.
We had a small disagreement that unfortunately turned into a rather large argument, at least from my perspective.
She said Grayson was harsh during their argument, and that she completely withdrew afterward. The experience made her wonder if their relationship could handle disagreements in everyday life.
She admitted she was concerned, explaining, ‘This isn’t the kind of relationship I want in a marriage.’
Julia spoke about how the show depicted her hesitancy with physical intimacy, explaining that she prioritizes emotional connection first. She felt the show didn’t accurately represent her feelings and actions regarding this.
‘I need the emotional connection before physical connection,’ she said.
She claimed the couple actually had a positive moment during intimacy week that viewers never saw.
Julia recalled a moment in the kitchen where she told him she felt very close to him, and he responded by saying he felt the same way.
Hearing him say we were worlds apart really surprised me – I had no idea he felt so distant.
Julia has put the difficult breakup of her Married at First Sight marriage behind her and is now focused on building a life for herself, doing things her own way.
As she put it simply: ‘I’ve never been happier.’
