Ioan Gruffudd claims ex-wife Alice Evans’ ‘malicious and false’ social media hurt his acting career

According to testimony in Los Angeles court on Monday, Alice Evans’ damaging and untrue posts on social media harmed the career of her former husband, actor Ioan Gruffudd.

On the fifth day of the court case, experienced Hollywood manager Maryellen Mulcahy gave testimony as Gruffudd, age 52, attempts to extend a domestic violence restraining order against Evans.

‘I definitely think they had an impact on his career,’ Mulcahy stated.

Gruffudd explained he was requesting the renewal due to what he described as five years of ongoing harassment and abuse from Evans towards him and his wife, Bianca Wallace, who is 33.

According to Mulcahy, Evans’ posts about her ex-husband contained untrue and hurtful language, filled with anger and resentment.

When considering an actor for a role, the first thing potential employers in the movie industry – as well as agents and publicists – do is search for them online, she explained.

If someone brings up things like those posts from Evans, the first question will be whether or not they’re actually true.

‘It caused hesitation. It was a problem – one hundred per cent.’

Gruffudd and Evans separated in 2021 and their divorce was completed in 2023. Since then, they’ve been involved in a contentious disagreement regarding finances and their two daughters, Ella, 16, and Elsie, 12.

Last April, Welsh actor Michael Sheen married his partner, Australian-born Anna Lundberg. They welcomed their daughter, Mia, in November.

Fifty-seven-year-old Evans says she’s struggling financially and is asking the court to require her ex-husband, Gruffudd, to increase the support payments he makes. Currently, he pays her $1,500 a month in spousal support and $3,000 a month for their two daughters. Gruffudd claims Evans has turned the girls against him.

He’s seeking to end his spousal support payments, citing ongoing domestic abuse from Alice and repeated violations of a previous restraining order. He also claims he has already paid her nearly $400,000 more than he should have.

Mulcahy, having previously worked with Evans, attempted to convince Alice to remove her offensive posts about Gruffudd.

‘But her response was hostile,’ she added.

Her social media posts were inflammatory and potentially damaging, and ultimately hindered both of their professional lives. It created a negative impression.

Mulcahy was surprised and upset when Evans reacted angrily after she asked Alice to remove some offensive comments.

According to Mulcahy, Evans falsely claimed she had known for years that Gruffudd was having an affair with Wallace, even though Gruffudd was still married at the time.

In an email, Evans warned that the person they were discussing believed he was all-powerful and posed a threat because he had nothing left to lose. She explained that people in that state can be incredibly dangerous.

Mulcahy recounted that Alice warned him he was making a mistake by supporting the other man, and that he would ultimately regret his decision and suffer the consequences along with him.

Honestly, it all felt so menacing. I was genuinely terrified! She made me feel like everything I’d built – my work, my livelihood – was on the line. And not just mine, but Ioan’s too! I really believed she was going to destroy both our careers. It was a truly frightening time.
