Justin Timberlake is trying to prevent the public release of body camera footage from his arrest in June 2024, which occurred during what’s been called the ‘ruin the tour’ incident and involved driving under the influence (DWI).
Nearly two years ago, during his arrest, the singer reportedly told the police officer – who didn’t recognize him – that the arrest could jeopardize his upcoming world tour. This conversation was captured on the officer’s bodycam, but the footage hasn’t been released to the public yet.
The 45-year-old singer, previously in a boyband and who performed in January to celebrate his friend Pharrell Williams, has filed a lawsuit in Suffolk County Supreme Court on Monday.
According to court documents obtained by the New York Post, Justin Timberlake argues that releasing the footage would be a violation of his personal privacy.
Releasing this video would seriously and permanently damage Justin Timberlake’s reputation, expose him to public mockery and harassment, and wouldn’t offer any real benefit to the public.
In September 2024 Timberlake accepted a plea deal following his DWI arrest in the Hamptons.
He decided to plead guilty to impaired driving, a less serious charge that included a $500 fine plus a $260 fee, 25 hours of community service, and creating a public service announcement.
Because Justin Timberlake didn’t take a breathalyzer test when he was arrested, New York law automatically suspended his driver’s license.
Okay, let’s talk about Justin Timberlake. It’s been a challenging time for him, honestly. With all the attention on Britney Spears’ conservatorship, a lot of his past actions towards her have come under scrutiny, and it’s definitely impacted his public image. It’s a reminder that how we treat others has lasting consequences, and he’s been dealing with the fallout of that recently.
Spears made explosive claims about their tumultuous romance in her 2023 memoir, The Woman In Me.
She stated that Justin pressured her to get an abortion when she became pregnant. After their breakup, she also accused him of portraying her as someone who had damaged the public image of a beloved celebrity.
People are also criticizing how Justin Timberlake handled the situation after Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.
The strong negative reaction significantly impacted Janet’s career for years, and the controversy ended up being more memorable than her actual performance that night.
After the controversy, Jackson faced significant career setbacks, while Timberlake continued to succeed for years before recently facing criticism for his role in the situation.
The way Jackson and Spears were treated differently caused public outrage, with many believing Jackson had been treated unfairly. This led Timberlake to finally apologize to both of them in 2021.
He expressed sincere regret for any moments in his life when his behavior worsened the situation, whether by saying something he shouldn’t have, or by staying silent when he should have spoken up.
The singer of ‘Cry Me A River’ acknowledged that he hadn’t always lived up to expectations and that he had gained advantages from a system that tolerates sexism and racism.
In July 2025, he revealed he was seriously ill, shortly after finishing his Forget Tomorrow World Tour.
Last year, after Justin Timberlake was diagnosed with Lyme disease, it came out that his wife had encouraged him to seek a diagnosis.
At first, he assumed his tiredness and pain were simply due to aging and the stress of his two-year Forget Tomorrow World Tour.
According to a source, he’s getting older and recently noticed his health issues were more serious than he initially thought.
After months of uncertainty, he finally received a diagnosis of Lyme disease. This explained a lot of health problems he’d been struggling with in silence.
