Universal Pictures is revisiting The Exorcist, a landmark horror series, with a new film slated for March 2027. This will be only the second time since 2005 that the studio has launched a new installment. The project is directed by Mike Flanagan, known for his 2019 adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, which received positive reviews despite modest box office returns. Following the underwhelming reception of The Exorcist: Believer in 2023, Universal is aiming for a revitalized approach to William Peter Blatty’s original story, first brought to the screen in the iconic 1973 film.
Mike Flanagan’s new Exorcist movie is assembling a talented cast, and it’s now led by Scarlett Johansson, known for her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and soon to be in the DC Universe. The latest actor joining the film is another well-known star from superhero movies, promising to bring even more energy to the project.
Universal Pictures has cast Sasha Calle in a currently secret role in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming film, The Exorcist, according to Deadline. Calle recently starred as Desiree “Desi” Lopez Molina in the Netflix movie The Rip alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, earning positive reviews. She’s also well-known for playing Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, a film that was part of the DC Extended Universe.

Sasha Calle isn’t the only big star joining the latest Exorcist movie; many other talented actors are also part of the cast.
Johansson and Calle, both known for their work in superhero films, are among a small group of experienced actors trying their hand at horror. They’re joined by Laurence Fishburne, an Academy Award nominee with a background in both Marvel and DC Comics movies. He famously played Perry White in Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and later appeared as Bill Foster in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), alongside Michael Douglas.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, known for playing Baron Karl Mordo in the Doctor Strange films, is joining the Exorcist franchise. Also joining the cast is Diane Lane, who famously portrayed Martha Kent in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Rounding out the confirmed actors is Jacobi Jupe, recently seen as Michael Darling in the 2023 Peter Pan & Wendy and with a role in Chloé Zhao’s upcoming 2025 film, Hamnet.
