Nicole Appleton says she and her former husband, Liam Gallagher, have become friends after ending their marriage 13 years ago, despite a difficult breakup.
Melanie Chisholm, 51, from the band All Saints, married Liam Gallagher, 53, of Oasis in 2008. They separated in 2013 after Liam had an affair and had a daughter, Gemma, with Liza Ghorbani, an American journalist. Their divorce was completed in April 2014.
Nicole recently shared that the split was very difficult for both her and Gene. It was especially hard on Gene, who was only twelve years old when his father, Liam, moved out. Thankfully, they’ve all managed to build a good relationship now.
Gene accompanied his father around the world on the Oasis reunion tour last year.
Nicole recently shared on Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s podcast that things are going really well with her family, especially between her son Gene and his father. She described their relationship as ‘the best.’
Nicole, who is now married to a Meta executive named Stephen Haines and has a six-year-old daughter, Skipper, revealed that after her breakup with Liam, she and her son, Gene, now 24, comforted each other and shared a bed during the difficult period.
When Liam and I split up, Gene was twelve years old. He started sleeping in my room, and we would watch Family Guy together every night – it became a nightly ritual for us.
We had a little routine – we’d often fall asleep watching Family Guy together. He was a big fan of the show, so it just became our thing. I think he also saw himself as someone who looked out for me.
‘It was also very challenging because he was nearly a teenager, and I was really nervous about it.
It reminded me of a scene from Kevin and Perry where they suddenly appear looking different, and I wasn’t sure how I’d react. He pulled it off surprisingly well, and he had some really good moments. Overall, he was a very supportive person.
We supported each other through that time without needing to say much. We were just there for each other, and it all felt very natural. I don’t even recall a specific moment when he retreated to his room – it didn’t feel like he was distancing himself, we were just comfortable.
Those nights were wonderful. We’d simply crawl into bed and watch Family Guy together, and he had a way of making everything feel alright.
Gene is now the lead singer of his band, Villanelle, and his father, Liam, came to watch them perform at a recent concert in London.
Nicole credits Gene with persuading her and her sister, Natalie Appleton, to get back together and release their new song, Falling Into You.
She said: ‘He’s the sweetest boy.
Even though he’s 24, I still think of him as my little boy. I love him dearly – I’m just bursting with affection for him. I’m incredibly proud of everything he’s achieved, and he always manages to make us all laugh.
It’s so sweet to see their bond! Even though he’s 24 and Skipper is only six, he really embraces his playful side when he’s with her, and they clearly have a lot of fun together.
It means the world to me when he shares his thoughts – I value his opinion above all others and trust it completely.
He told me to ask Aunt Nat, and of course, I did! It’s such a treat when my brother lets anyone in on what he’s working on, because he’s usually so private about it. I’m completely hands-off when it comes to his music – he insists on keeping me at arm’s length and won’t share anything until it’s finished. I think he’s afraid I’ll either offer unwanted feedback or get too anxious about the process. So, whenever he unexpectedly mentions something about it, it really makes my day!
I’ve been following Liam for years, and it’s lovely to see his family grow! He has two older kids – Lennon, who’s 26 and from his marriage to Patsy Kensit, and his daughter Molly Moorish-Gallagher, who’s 27 and he shares with Lisa Moorish. It’s great seeing them all!
The singer is now engaged to Debbie Gwyther.
