Harry Styles shared the story of how he unexpectedly ended up in a viral photo at St. Peter’s Square in Rome after the new Pope was announced last year.
Fans were excited in May when the 31-year-old singer was seen in the audience while Pope Leo XIV gave his first speech as pope.
Harry Styles recently revealed on BBC Radio 1 that he was in Rome for a simple haircut, playfully dismissing rumors he was there for the papal conclave. He shared this while promoting his new album, ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally,’ on the Greg James Breakfast Show.
‘It happened, I was getting a haircut in Rome’ to which the host teased: ‘Long way to go for it’.
Harry continued, explaining that he suddenly heard everyone yelling “Habemus Papam!” – “We have a Pope!” – and then people began running through the streets.
My barber suddenly stopped cutting my hair and excitedly announced, “We have a Pope! A new Pope has been chosen!”
Fortunately, the hairdresser finally finished cutting the singer’s hair before he went to join the crowds watching the historic event.
Harry playfully complained that the new Pope had overshadowed his trip to Rome, joking, ‘I thought, “Who’s stealing my thunder?”‘
The singer recently shared that he needed to rediscover his passion for music after taking a three-year break. He’s celebrating his new album and this renewed love with a global tour called Together, Together, planned for 2026, which will include performances in seven cities.
During an interview on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby, he explained that after finishing his last tour, he realized he needed a compelling reason to create another album. He felt he needed a strong motivation before starting a new project.
It’s not enough to simply say, ‘I finished touring, so now I’ll make an album, then release it, then tour again.’ For me, a big part of this was focusing more on other important areas of my life that I often neglect when I’m on tour for extended periods.
He explained that those couple of years were really important for him personally. It allowed him to rediscover his love for music and truly appreciate the special feeling of being part of a crowd.
I’m so excited! Harry’s announced a massive tour, and it’s going to be incredible! He’ll be hitting 50 cities around the world – including Amsterdam, London, São Paulo, Mexico City, New York, Melbourne, and Sydney – all throughout 2026, starting in May and wrapping up in December. I’m already planning how to catch as many shows as possible!
Harry sparked conversation among fans on Friday while promoting his shows, as he spoke with a surprisingly American accent.
Niall Horan, who became famous in the band One Direction and was raised in Cheshire, recently talked about his upcoming concerts on Hits Radio. Some listeners noticed that his accent sounded different.
The singer talked about discovering old photos from his time on tour with the band.
I’m happy I went through with it. I keep finding old photos of One Direction that I’d completely forgotten about, he explained.
People immediately noticed a change in his accent and shared their thoughts on social media, with many commenting that he now sounds American.
People noticed his accent sounded different, wondering what happened to it. It seemed he’d lost touch with his background, and it was coming through in the way he spoke.
It’s been fun watching my friend Harry Styles do interviews, almost like listening to a bedtime story. I did notice his occasional slip into an American accent on a few words, which was interesting.
‘Is it just me or does Harry sound softer and has a slightly American accent now?’
Harry shared his excitement about the residency, explaining that after finishing the album and living with it for a period, he felt confident and eager to share the music with everyone.
I’m really looking forward to sharing it with others, and that’s why now felt like the perfect time to release it.
Someone asked Harry if the rumor was true that he was constantly kissing – saying he only did it ‘during disco, and sometimes.’
He believes in finding a healthy balance in life. While it’s important to enjoy yourself, constantly being ‘on’ isn’t good for you. He suggests living with love and intention, but also remembering to take breaks and have fun along the way.
I think I’ve made some good changes in my life over the past couple of years. It seems like people – especially Italians I’ve been spending time with recently – are very affectionate, always kissing, and I think that’s just a reflection of how they live their lives. It’s like seeing that behavior inspired me to prioritize connection, even if it meant taking a longer lunch break to enjoy it, and then getting right back to work.
Before leaving, Harry revealed a few details about the upcoming tour. He explained that it’s mainly about enjoying time together and strengthening their bond.
This album really explores the distance between us – the feeling of me being in a different place than everyone else – and I’ve been trying to overcome that throughout the process.
I want the tour to create that same energetic connection. I want people to feel like I’m right there with them, experiencing the music and having fun together – sharing the same excitement.
Harry is based in Hampstead, London, and is dating actress Zoe Kravitz from the United States.
Harry excited his fans by announcing his new song, “Aperture,” will be released on Friday, marking his comeback to making music.
His new album KISS ALL THE TIME. DISCO, OCCASIONALLY will be released on Friday, March 6.
Tune in to Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby every weekday from 6am to 10am on Capital FM across the UK, and listen on the Global Player app.
