Marshals showrunner confirms what happened to Monica Dutton.
In a recent interview with TVLine, the creator of the show Marshals, Spencer Hudnut, explained why the character Monica had to die and how her death will impact the rest of the series. Here’s what he said:
Kayce’s storyline in ‘Yellowstone‘ reached a satisfying conclusion, with his aspirations fulfilled. However, as the writers considered his future, they felt he needed a significant challenge. Given his history, it was inevitable that something difficult would happen to him, and ultimately, that hardship came through the events involving Monica.
I see Monica as a mentor to Kayce in this first episode, helping him figure out his next steps. When you look closely, Tate attends the rally as a tribute to his mother, and Kayce goes to protect him. Without Monica’s influence, Kayce wouldn’t have been there, and might not have discovered this new direction. We were careful to pay our respects when saying goodbye to the character, and I didn’t want to interfere with the already perfect ending of ‘Yellowstone.’ Sadly, things happened in real life that changed our plans.
