The series, starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, is no longer Apple TV+’s most popular show. It has been overtaken in viewership by a monster movie from the Monsterverse.
The new series quickly became a hit after its release on February 27th, reaching the top spot on the streaming platform’s list of most popular shows, according to data from FlixPatrol. It remained number one on March 1st.
Despite strong competition from popular shows like Hijack, Tehran, and The Last Thing He Told Me, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters achieved a first-place finish.
As a huge sci-fi fan, I’ve been thrilled to see this show do so well on Apple TV! It’s actually become the number one show in over 50 countries – seriously, all over the world! We’re talking the US, Mexico, Spain, France, even places like South Korea and Japan. It’s amazing to see something resonate with audiences globally like this.
What is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters About?
Premiering in November 2023, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows two half-siblings who uncover their father’s link to the secret Monarch organization after Godzilla reappears. The show jumps between the present day and the 1950s, revealing how their family has been connected to Monarch for generations.
The new series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, boasts a talented cast including Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, and John Goodman, who reprises his role as Bill Randa from the 2017 film Kong: Skull Island. Wyatt and Kurt Russell both star as Colonel Lee Shaw at different ages. This impressive cast, combined with a respectful take on the original story, has resonated with both fans and critics.
The TV show is currently very popular with audiences, earning an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. Critics also like it, giving it an 82% score on the Tomatometer. Reviews highlight the show’s impressive special effects, original story, and distinct style within the larger Monsterverse franchise.
Even After 70 Years, Fans Still Can’t Get Enough Of Godzilla
Since first appearing in 1954, Godzilla has become a beloved cultural icon, starring in recent films like Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla Minus One. Despite its long history, there’s still potential for many more Godzilla stories to be told.
According to creator Sarah Tunnell, the show has a wealth of content and potential for exploration. To keep the program engaging, she and her team are constantly innovating, even though it’s based on material that’s over 70 years old.
The show’s creator explained they didn’t want to rehash old ideas, but instead create a story that feels natural and connected. Their goal is to make the show captivating, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats and eager to find out what happens next.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is currently streaming on Apple TV.
