Chris Hemsworth revels how he keeps the spark in his 16-year marriage with Elsa Pataky: ‘Doesn’t shatter my soul’

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have one of Hollywood’s most solid marriages.

The Australian actor shared how he and his wife, a Spanish actress, maintain their romance after nearly 16 years of marriage.

The 42-year-old credits his wife’s direct and honest communication – even when it’s difficult to hear – as the foundation of their strong relationship.

Chris says he uses Elsa’s honesty as a guide when deciding on projects, whether they’re movies or commercials. He trusts that if it feels true to her character, it’s worth doing.

Everyone else offers their opinion, but I trust her to always be completely honest with me.

Sometimes it’s presented kindly, which helps prevent me from being overwhelmed, and I’m grateful for that.

Chris has previously said the secret to their strong relationship is ‘having fun’.

I was so fascinated to hear Chris talk about his marriage on Jay Shetty’s podcast! He shared that he and Elsa are both really adventurous people, and that a big part of what makes their relationship work is simply prioritizing time together. It’s lovely to hear them talk about what keeps their connection strong.

He admitted that things get tough when life becomes completely focused on work and children, and the couple starts to feel like they’re just co-managing a home or work schedules, losing their connection with each other.

He explained that prioritizing their relationship – by disconnecting from other commitments and simply spending quality time together – was key to their success today.

The two also value ‘making each other laugh’.

While initial attraction is important, what really matters long-term is having a strong friendship and enjoying each other’s company.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this couple’s journey, and Elsa, who’s 49, has openly talked about their relationship before. She’s shared that, like any couple, they’ve navigated some difficult times and worked through them together.

In an interview with HELLO! Magazine, she explained that a successful marriage requires ongoing effort and that challenges can actually help you grow as a couple.

‘You have to try and keep growing together, making sure that your paths carry on crossing.

It’s about keeping things playful, appreciating small joys, and always staying interested in each other. Relationships require flexibility, and when distance or challenges come between you, it’s important to know how to reconnect.

It was love at first sight for the A-list power couple when they were introduced in early 2010.

They got married later that year and are still happily together, enjoying a relaxed, vacation-like lifestyle at their large home in Byron Bay, Australia.

They share 11-year-old twin sons, Sasha and Tristan, and 13-year-old daughter India Rose.
