Fans of Mark Wahlberg’s action films are in for a treat – one of his most thrilling and intense movies is becoming available to stream for free. Wahlberg is known for his high-octane roles in films like Four Brothers, Three Kings, Lone Survivor, The Italian Job, and The Departed, which often feature plenty of action and violence. But his 2007 thriller really takes things to the extreme, with non-stop shootouts that are central to the plot.
This movie is a fast-paced action thriller that also feels like a return to the classic action films of the past – the kind Hollywood doesn’t produce much anymore. It reunited Mark Wahlberg with director Antoine Fuqua, who delivered another excellent action movie, Shooter, six years after their acclaimed film Training Day. Now, you can watch Shooter for free on Tubi this March.
The movie Shooter, based on Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact, follows Bob Lee Swagger, a skilled ex-Marine sniper played by Mark Wahlberg, as he fights to prove his innocence after being falsely accused of trying to assassinate someone. While on the run from the police, Swagger seeks to uncover the government official responsible for framing him. The film also features Kate Mara, Danny Glover, Michael Peña, and Rhona Mitra.
‘Shooter’ Is a Classic Good vs Evil Action Thriller
Do you miss the days when action movies were straightforward? When heroes clearly battled villains, and the focus was on exciting action, not complex emotional baggage? Shooter brings back that classic feel.
Shooter is a straightforward, exciting action movie with plenty of surprises. Ultimately, it’s a story about a hero fighting his way through enemies to confront the main villain. Critics didn’t love it – it only received a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences really enjoyed the film, giving it an 80% rating based on over 250,000 reviews, appreciating the classic action style brought by Mark Wahlberg and director Antoine Fuqua.
‘Shooter’ Could Finally Be Getting a Sequel

Paramount
It’s surprising that a sequel to Shooter hasn’t been made, especially considering Mark Wahlberg has starred in multiple films like Daddy’s Home, The Family Plan, and numerous Transformers movies. While Shooter was popular with viewers, it didn’t perform well at the box office in 2007. Though it earned $95 million, with a production cost of $61 million, it didn’t meet Hollywood’s standard for profitability – generally needing to earn twice its budget to be considered a success.

Mark Wahlberg recently expressed interest in making another Shooter movie. After Skydance bought Paramount, he told ScreenRant that a sequel is now a real possibility. Wahlberg shared that, even after 19 years, people still frequently ask him about the original film. While nothing is confirmed yet, both Wahlberg and fans are hoping for a continuation of the Shooter story nearly two decades later.
