Suzanne Shaw revealed on Instagram Friday that she and her fiancé, Sam Greenfield, have ended their 12-year relationship. She shared the news in a heartfelt post.
Hear’Say singer Suzanne Shaw, 44, revealed she and her partner separated in January and she’s been coping with the difficult and surprising split ever since.
Suzanne and Sam became engaged in 2014 and had a son, Rafferty, in 2015. She also has a 21-year-old son named Corey with her former partner, Darren Day.
Although the news of their breakup surprised many, looking back, there were hints that things hadn’t been going well for the couple for a while.
The last public appearance the two were photographed at was four years ago, in 2022, at the opening night of the musical, Sister Act.
Suzanne hinted at a rocky patch this month as she shared a Valentine’s Day tribute to herself.
She posted a puzzling message about prioritizing personal freedom and self-love, without saying anything about her fiancé, who is a businessman.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m a huge believer in self-love, and I recently shared a little Valentine’s Day message to myself! It was simple: ‘Happy Valentine’s Day to me! I love you, unconditionally. You are perfect exactly as you are.’ Honestly, it’s a reminder we all need sometimes. We should treat ourselves with the same kindness and acceptance we offer others. It’s about embracing your flaws and celebrating who you are, right now. It’s a powerful thing, loving yourself completely.
I’m embracing self-love and realizing I’m amazing just as I am. Forget fancy dates – I’m my own best company, my biggest supporter, and my ultimate soulmate. I truly adore myself!
I treat myself with the things I enjoy, like buying my own flowers, and I face my anxieties directly. I offer myself the encouragement I need, reminding myself that I’m capable. I don’t rely on superficial gestures or needing someone else’s affection – I practice genuine self-compassion, and I give that kindness to myself.
I embrace my freedom and choose to love myself fully. I won’t settle for anything less than complete acceptance, celebrating every part of who I am – imperfections and all. I love myself openly and without hesitation, living by my own rules.
Roses are red, and today I’m finally prioritizing myself – taking control and embracing who I am. What about you? True love isn’t about fleeting gifts like chocolates or flowers; it’s about finding peace and healing within, without feeling ashamed.
‘So here’s to my joy, my vibe, my delight, My beautifully messy, evolving life.
‘Roses are red, and that’s the real art… The greatest romance is loving your own god damn heart.’
Shortly after her breakup with Sam in January, Suzanne shared a quote about fresh starts.
It said: ‘You have the power to begin anew, and everything will be alright. Choosing to start over takes courage, and it’s far better than settling for a life that doesn’t let you shine.’
She advised not to compromise on what you truly want, even if it means facing some temporary discomfort. There’s a chance something amazing is just around the corner.
Suzanne shared a heartfelt message about her recent breakup, expressing gratitude that she’s now equipped to cope with it while sober. She’s been alcohol-free for six years, and feels prepared to navigate this difficult time without relying on alcohol.
I haven’t been online much lately because I’ve been dealing with a breakup, which was completely unexpected. I’m still processing everything.
Things have been incredibly difficult lately, and I wasn’t planning on sharing anything publicly. But, since my account focuses on my mental health journey – including overcoming alcohol, making lifestyle changes, and finding stability through running – I wanted to be open about what I’m going through.
Things have shifted in a new direction, and it’s been challenging. Thankfully, I have the resources I need to manage this situation.
I’m so grateful I’ve been sober for six years, and that I’ve spent that time focusing on growing as a person.
I haven’t always handled things perfectly, and it’s been a bit chaotic, but I’ve found helpful tools like therapy and meditation. I’ve also started running and focusing on eating healthy, which has made a difference.
I’m realizing I need to fully embrace this pain, allow myself to heal, and see it as the start of a deeply restorative period. I’m entering a time where I’m prioritizing self-love above all else.
I needed to share this to finish one part of my life and begin a new one.
I’ve been struggling to find the words since January, but now that it’s almost March, I’m finally ready to fully focus on healing and start treating myself with the love and care I deserve – something I should have prioritized a long time ago.
Suzanne asked her followers to understand and respect her decision not to share details about her split.
Suzanne was once engaged to Darren, a well-known personality who often appeared at celebrity parties and had a reputation for dating many women. He was previously engaged to actresses Isla Fisher and Anna Friel, both of whom later became Hollywood stars.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how challenging the postpartum period can be. Sadly, back in 2005, a singer was going through a really tough time with postnatal depression when her partner, Darren, unexpectedly left her and their seven-week-old son, Corey. It was a heartbreaking situation, and reports at the time said he simply stated he wasn’t cut out for family life.
Last year, Suzanne shared on Vanessa Feltz’s show that her ex-partner simply left one day – he went out for a curry and never returned. She also mentioned that her subsequent experience with postnatal depression felt predictable, given the circumstances.
Darren became well-known for starting a relationship with the singer while they were both still engaged to other partners.
Oh, it was so complicated! He ended up marrying Stephanie, which I was thrilled about, but then they divorced in 2019. The really crazy part? He messed up with his ex, Suzanne, and Stephanie took him back – can you believe it? – nine years before they finally split. It just… it broke my heart to see it all unfold, honestly.
Two years before her engagement to Sam, Suzanne was married to Heart FM presenter Jason King, 51.
She married the radio presenter in 2009 until their separation in 2012.
