is planning a remake of a magical Japanese TV show.
According to Deadline, Hulu is creating a new series called Last Second Chance. It’s based on the Japanese show Rebooting and tells the story of a woman who gets a do-over in life. She has to change her ways and avoid being killed. The original 2023 series starred Sakura Andô as Asami Kondo, a 33-year-old woman who gets a fresh start while living with her parents.
Corey Nickerson is writing a series called Last Second Chance for Hulu, and Nahnatchka Khan will direct. Nickerson is known for his work as an executive producer on Black-ish, as well as shows like Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23, Scrubs, and Chuck. Khan previously worked with Nickerson as the creator of Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23 and Fresh Off the Boat. They also collaborated on a Fox comedy pilot called Fatrick.
The television series is being produced by 20th Century Television, Rideback, and Khan’s Fierce Baby. Nickerson and Khan are executive producers, along with Robert Leger, Jonathan Eirich and Jonathan Gabaym from Rideback, Michael LoFaso, and Jennifer Carreras of Fierce Baby. Rideback, which recently had changes in leadership, is also known for producing Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Khan isn’t the only one with experience adapting shows for American audiences, having previously worked on a U.S. version of the Australian series Laid. When it comes to Hulu comedies, Last Second Chance aims to reach the same level of success as shows like Only Murders in the Building and The Bear – both popular, critically acclaimed dark comedies, though The Bear might not be on air much longer.
Hulu is planning to become fully part of Disney+ by 2026, but it will still create its own shows and movies, like Last Second Chance. Currently, many people can already watch Hulu content on Disney+, but both services will maintain their own unique style and offerings.
I’m really excited about Hulu’s upcoming show, Last Second Chance! While they haven’t announced any of the actors yet, I think it has the potential to be one of their best series if they bring in some truly talented people. The original show already has a dedicated fanbase – it’s rated 8.5 out of 10 on IMDb, based on over 1,600 reviews – and I think a lot of us are eagerly waiting for this reboot, plus it’s sure to attract a whole new audience too.
