Scarlett Douglas, the host of ‘A Place In The Sun,’ has shared that she and her boyfriend, Kyle Murray, are planning to get married soon, before moving to Dubai.
The 38-year-old TV presenter, known for helping people find their perfect homes, is now looking to establish a family life of her own in the UAE, believing it offers a more secure environment for raising children.
Scarlette had been private about her relationship, but she recently revealed her boyfriend’s name in a sweet Valentine’s Day post.
She revealed that while Kyle hasn’t proposed yet, he already knows what kind of engagement ring she wants when they eventually get married.
I’ve always loved how open she is about wanting a family, and I was so thrilled to hear she took the step to freeze her eggs this year! It feels like a really empowering move, and I’m excited for her future.
She mentioned that he’s already aware of the ring she wants. They’re planning to get engaged in June, and to make room for them as a couple, he’ll be renting out his apartment since it’s smaller than hers.
‘And then obviously we’re going to be going to Dubai together in September /October time.
He’s asked for my ring preferences, which is wonderful – he wants to get it right. This will be his first marriage, and he doesn’t have any children.
He’s ready for marriage and a family. I’ve always dreamed of getting married in Jamaica, as that’s where my parents are from.
Both of his parents are Jamaican, which is great. We’re starting to plan the guest list now, so as soon as he proposes and I accept, I’ll be ready to go – I used to work as a bridal consultant, so I have experience with wedding planning.
I basically decided who would fill each role – like, who I wanted as the chef and who as the DJ. I really think it worked because I actually made a list of the qualities I wanted in people, and he perfectly matched what I was looking for.
‘He literally just walked into my life and he’s everything that I asked for, it’s crazy.’
Scarlette revealed she and her partner, Kyle, are planning to move to Dubai later this year. Kyle recently received a job offer there – he’s lived in Dubai before – and they’re excited to start a new life together.
I’m hoping to start a performing arts school in that area to support local children, and we’re also considering opening a gym since my partner works in fitness.
‘So Dubai will be great because it’s so safe for children.’
Scarlette recently did an interview while launching her new business, Keys or Coffee, with her brother Stuart. It’s a unique property prize draw where people pay a small entry fee – just £3 – for a chance to win a house. What makes it special is that the public gets to vote on the interior design through Instagram.
This follows Scarlette’s disclosure of her compelling reason for freezing her eggs, which she described as the most positive step she’s ever taken.
You know, last year I wasn’t sure about sharing what I was going through with everyone. It was a really personal thing, but I ultimately decided to be open about my fertility journey because I realized how important it is to talk about these things. I wanted to help raise awareness and let others know they’re not alone.
This year, I watched a presenter go to Barbados to check out a fertility clinic, and it really resonated with me. She spoke so powerfully about why, as a Black woman, she felt she had to do something – it was incredibly moving and inspiring to see her take that step.
She explained to the Mirror that, being a public figure, she felt it was important to share her experience and raise awareness, particularly within the Black community. She believes there’s often a lack of open conversation about health issues, and she wanted to document her journey as a Black woman to help change that.
Looking back on the surgery, almost a year later, she said it was a tough time. It happened just two days before the Ideal Home Show, and she admitted those two days at the show were really difficult, given everything she’d recently experienced.
Even though it was difficult, Scarlette said freezing her eggs was the best decision she’s ever made, and she now feels a huge sense of relief.
She suggested her age – being in her late 30s – influenced her choice, explaining that it allows her to prioritize her career. Being based in Los Angeles means she doesn’t feel pressured to find a husband or have a child right away.
She also mentioned wishing she’d known more about how egg quality declines with age before trying to get pregnant.
Scarlette shared that she had a procedure at Harley Street Fertility Clinic, which lasted almost two weeks.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) states that freezing and thawing eggs typically costs between £7,000 and £8,000, and eggs can be safely stored for up to 55 years.
While freezing eggs doesn’t always result in pregnancy, success rates are increasing thanks to improvements in the technology. Therefore, older statistics on egg freezing aren’t a reliable indicator of current outcomes.
Okay, let’s talk about egg freezing. It’s definitely a big commitment – the last few weeks leading up to the procedure can be pretty intense, I won’t lie! But honestly, once it’s done, there’s really nothing to worry about. I truly believe more women should feel comfortable talking openly about this as an option. It’s empowering to take control of your future fertility, and the more we discuss it, the more normalized it becomes.
The presenter previously explained to the Daily Mail that the entire process takes around a month to schedule. From the injection to egg retrieval, it usually takes about two weeks, possibly ten days. While it’s not overly difficult, you are closely monitored throughout.
I had treatment at the Harley Street Fertility Clinic, and the care was fantastic. They were very thorough, closely monitoring my progress with regular scans and blood tests.
It definitely feels like a lot when you’re going through it, and it can be quite demanding. But that intensity is temporary. Once it’s over, everything calms down, your eggs are safely stored, and you can relax knowing they’re taken care of.
It can be pricey, but payment plans are available. If you’re considering it, don’t hesitate to ask for more information.
Please talk to me, or consult with a healthcare professional online. I believe this is something we should address, either by taking action or at least discussing it further.
Scarlette was a regular on the show A Place In The Sun between 2015 and 2022. More recently, she’s been featured on Worst House on the Street and Can’t Sell Must Sell, alongside her brother Stuart.
