Okay, so I just heard that A Woman of Substance, the new revenge drama with Brenda Blethyn and Emmett J Scanlan, is finally getting a release date! And the best part? It’s coming out pretty soon, which is awesome. I’ve been waiting for this one!
The new Channel 4 series is adapted from Barbara Taylor Bradford’s 1979 novel. It tells the story of Emma Harte (played by both Julie Blethyn and Jessica Reynolds) and her rise from being poor to becoming wealthy.
Audiences are excited for the new drama written by Katherine Jakeways and Roanne Bardsley, and Channel 4 has announced it will debut on Wednesday, March 11th at 9pm.
What to Read Next
The second episode will air at the same time the next night. The schedule for the final six episodes hasn’t been decided yet. If you want to watch them all at once, all eight episodes will be available to stream on Channel 4 after the first episode airs.
The story begins in 1911 with Emma Harte, a determined but poor servant in Yorkshire, England. It follows her incredible rise to become one of the wealthiest women in the world, eventually living in a lavish penthouse in New York City.

Emma’s story follows a woman’s incredible journey to success throughout the 20th century. She boldly breaks away from societal expectations and refuses to accept limitations, determined to reach the top – no matter the cost.
A television adaptation of Bradford’s novel aired in 1985, featuring Jenny Seagrove and Deborah Kerr as Emma at different points in the story. The series also included notable actors like Liam Neeson and Miranda Richardson.

Blethyn expressed her excitement about playing the famous role, noting she was following in the footsteps of Deborah Kerr. As a Barbara Taylor Bradford fan, she called the chance to portray the strong-willed Emma Harte ‘an unmissable opportunity’.
Reynolds said playing Emma is a dream come true. She’s incredibly impressed with the talented team and cast, and thrilled to adapt the beautiful story and scripts for the screen.
A Woman of Substance premieres on Channel 4 on Wednesday 11 March.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
