Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Streams on Netflix

Three years after its initial release didn’t perform as well as hoped in theaters, Tom Cruise’s latest Mission: Impossible film is now available to stream on Netflix. The seventh movie in the series has been added to the streaming service’s catalog and can be watched now.

Released in 2023, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning followed the successful Mission: Impossible — Fallout. While expectations were high, the film didn’t perform as well at the box office as previous installments in the Mission: Impossible series, particularly when factoring in its high production costs, which were increased by insurance needed for Tom Cruise’s ambitious stunts.

As a critic, I have to say the disappointing box office numbers for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning are genuinely surprising. The film was incredibly well-received by both audiences and reviewers! In fact, it boasts a stellar 96% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes – only slightly behind the amazing 98% score Mission: Impossible – Fallout achieved. You’d think that kind of praise would translate to bigger ticket sales.

Viewers on Rotten Tomatoes largely agreed, giving the film a “Verified Hot” score of 94% based on their reviews. Many praised it as the best action movie of 2023.

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Was the Beginning of the End for the Series

Many believe the disappointing performance of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was due to its marketing. Originally titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, some think audiences were turned off by the name, as it implied the movie was only half a story and a sequel would be needed for full resolution.

The movie was ultimately retitled Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. While it earned $598.8 million globally, a bit more than previous installments, reports suggest it cost more to make, and reviews were only moderately positive (scoring 80% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Comes to Netflix

While most of the Mission: Impossible movies are now available on Paramount+, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning gives viewers who don’t subscribe to the service a chance to experience this hugely popular franchise, which has earned over $4.7 billion at the global box office. However, to see how the story concludes, they’ll need to sign up for a free trial of Paramount+.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt and his team—including some allies whose loyalty is questionable—are up against a powerful new enemy and a global threat. Along with familiar faces, Ethan and the IMF must locate a dangerous weapon before it can be misused. This action-packed film is the first part of a two-part story that promises a thrilling and spectacular conclusion to Ethan Hunt’s adventures.

Christopher McQuarrie directed and co-wrote the screenplay for Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning with Erik Jendresen. The film stars Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, and Henry Czerny.
