Leigh-Anne Pinnock says her marriage to Andre Gray has become even stronger. The footballer dealt with a difficult situation – a betrayal of trust – by going to therapy and taking time to understand himself better.
The singer, formerly of Little Mix, had shared that she’d lost trust in footballer Andre following a betrayal that left her devastated, just under two years after their wedding in Jamaica.
Pinnock, 34, shares four-year-old twins with footballer Gray, also 34, and says they’ve worked through their problems now that Gray has started seeing a therapist.
She explained to PEOPLE that the most important thing was seeing him change. He went to therapy and even moved to a different country.
He spent a lot of time thinking about things while he was alone, and that was really important for his growth. He truly put in the effort to improve himself.
After a year playing for Fatih Karagümrük S.K. in Turkey, Gray has returned to England. Throughout his career, he’s also played for clubs in Greece (Aris Thessaloniki) and Saudi Arabia (Al-Riyadh).
It sounds crazy, but honestly, I think all his time playing soccer abroad actually saved his marriage. Like, all those moves, all that time away… it somehow brought them back together. It’s so ironic, but I really believe it’s true!
Pinnock explained that the biggest challenge for them has been the distance. Despite how difficult it’s been, they’ve been dealing with a long-distance relationship for three years.
It’s definitely helped me stay connected to them, and it feels good to look forward to seeing them again. I think it’s actually a healthy thing to miss people you care about.
Oh my gosh, I’m so thrilled he’s back playing for Port Vale in the UK! It’s just amazing! He’s going to be closer to his family now, and honestly, it feels like everything is finally falling into place. It just feels like a really positive new chapter for everyone, and I’m so happy for them all! It’s like a weight has been lifted, and we can all look forward to better things now!
She explained that going through a difficult experience and emerging stronger is incredibly rewarding.
We’ve been together a long time – we’re married with kids – and we’re at a point where we can enjoy a comfortable and relaxed life.
In a January interview on Paloma Faith’s Mad Sad Bad podcast, Leigh-Anne Pinnock suggested there were problems in her marriage, disclosing that her husband, a footballer, had been unfaithful.
She described a difficult period in her marriage, explaining that a lack of honesty and the resulting loss of trust felt like a betrayal.
Heartbreak is a really intense experience. It’s incredibly painful, especially when it comes from someone you love deeply and trust, because they have the power to really hurt you.
The singer shared that the footballer, Gray, recognized he’d been acting selfishly after relocating to Greece to play for Aris Thessaloniki.
She explained that wanting to change is key, and thankfully, he did want to. She believes couples can work through difficulties, but if someone isn’t willing to change for the sake of the relationship, it’s not worth pursuing.
It’s their responsibility to complete the task and fix it, and it’s important to remember this isn’t your fault.
He started going to therapy, and I think moving to play sports overseas was really beneficial. It gave him time to step back and realize his actions weren’t building a healthy relationship – they were actually quite self-centered.
When asked about lessons from her past heartbreak, Leigh-Anne Pinnock revealed she is still in a relationship with the person who caused her pain.
I realized how important forgiveness is. I’m still in a relationship with the person who hurt me, and he really worked hard to become a better partner.
If you can overcome a challenge and reach the finish line, it makes everything you went through worth it.
People sometimes question why I stay with someone or give them another chance. They might see it as being too forgiving or not prioritizing my own needs. But ultimately, I believe only I can know what’s best for me.
Pinnock added that the couple overcame their difficulties and are now in a very happy situation.
She explained that if someone genuinely demonstrates a willingness to change, it speaks volumes. You can’t force someone to change, but their effort to improve themselves is a clear indicator of their character.
I needed to experience those challenges in our relationship to reach where we are today, and it’s a wonderful place to be.
