Viewers will say goodbye to Dermot Mulroney‘s character, Battalion Chief Dominick “Dom” Pascal, on Season 14 of the show, though it won’t be permanent. NBC has announced Mulroney will take a break starting with the next episode and won’t appear for the rest of the season.
However, the show won’t be without a fire chief. Rob Morgan will take over the role of Battalion Chief Hopkins, appearing throughout the season.
Whether or not Taylor Kinney’s character, Kelly Severide, will be back for the rest of Chicago Fire Season 14 is still unknown. Reports indicate his return is possible, but the scripts for the latter half of the season haven’t been completed yet.
Before the character is removed from the show, actor Pascal will appear in a special event bringing together the three “One Chicago” series: Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. This event will air on March 4th and will be part of Season 14, Episode 13 of Chicago Fire.
Chicago Fire Replace Dermot Mulroney In Season 14
The new Battalion Chief, Hopkins, joining the show is a seasoned firefighter with a troubled history managing Chicago firehouses. He’s known for taking charge. Hopkins will first appear in Episode 16 and will be featured in a total of four episodes, including the season finale.
According to reports, Kara Kilmer’s character, Stella Kidd, is temporarily missing from Chicago Fire as part of the show’s ongoing story. Viewers will learn more about the reason for her absence as new episodes are released. The report also clarifies that this has nothing to do with any decisions about whether Chicago Hope will return for a fifteenth season. A renewal hasn’t been announced yet, so those conversations haven’t even begun.
As a long-time fan of Chicago Fire, I’ve been following the changes at Firehouse 51. When Eamonn Walker left as Boden, I was curious about how they’d fill that role. Enter Kara Kilmer’s character, Pascal, in Season 13. She’s definitely a different kind of leader than Boden was, and a big part of what’s been interesting to watch is how she’s been working to gain the respect and trust of the rest of the crew.
Besides her role on Chicago Fire, Mulroney is also a main cast member on the Netflix series The Hunting Wives. She began filming the second season of that show in November, while still working on Chicago Fire. The Hunting Wives is currently scheduled to return to Netflix in 2026.
Morgan is widely recognized for playing Turk Barrett in the popular Marvel Netflix series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. He’s also been a regular on Peacock’s Teacup and HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, with guest appearances in shows like Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Stranger Things, and This Is Us. In 2019, he received critical acclaim for his leading role in the film Bull, earning a Best Male Lead nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards and a Special Jury Award.
