Okay, so you’re stuck trying to get past Snorlax in Pokémon FireRed or LeafGreen, huh? I totally get it – that big guy is a roadblock! Here’s how I figured out how to wake him up and keep moving.
Dealing with Snorlax can be frustrating for any Pokémon FireRed or LeafGreen player, whether you’re new to the game or have played it many times. This large Pokémon actually blocks your path twice during the adventure.
So, how do you get past Snorlax in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen? Here is a guide.
Getting past Snorlax in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen
Okay, so you first stumble upon Snorlax on Route 12, and he’s just… there, blocking the way south of Lavender Town! It’s kinda funny. You can find him even after you’ve been to Vermillion City, but trust me, don’t bother trying to battle him right away. You won’t be able to wake him up until you head into Lavender Town first. It’s part of the whole story, and it’s pretty cool!
Once you arrive in Lavender Town, your next goal is to get the Poké Flute. This item is used to wake up the sleeping Snorlax.
How to get the Poké Flute in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen
Getting the Poké Flute requires some effort and several battles. If you’d prefer to skip this part and continue the story, you’ll be disappointed to find out that you need to wake up Snorlax to progress in both FireRed and LeafGreen.
To get the Poké Flute, you need to rescue Mr. Fuji from Team Rocket. They’re holding him at the top of Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. When you first arrive in Lavender Town, you won’t be able to reach the top right away. A ghost will block your path on the second-to-last floor.
This is where things get complicated.
Next, travel west to Celadon City and search for Team Rocket’s hidden base. You’ll find it inside the city’s Game Corner. Look for a Team Rocket member standing near a poster. After defeating them in battle, interact with the switch hidden behind the poster. This will open a secret passage.
Once you’ve explored the entire hideout, you’ll face Giovanni in a battle. If you win, he’ll give you the Silph Scope, a tool that lets you identify ghosts and spirits.
I’m sure you can guess what’s next.
At the top of Pokémon Tower, use the Silph Scope to find a Marowak. After defeating or catching it, go to the final floor to rescue Mt. Fuji. He’ll then return to his house south of the tower, where you can collect the Poké Flute.
After you receive the flute, approach Snorlax and play the flute for him. This will wake him up and start a battle.
As a Pokémon trainer, I learned that you only run into Snorlax twice in FireRed and LeafGreen – once on Route 8, and again on Route 16. If you’re hoping to add Snorlax to your team, you have to catch it when you see it! After you beat it, it just runs off into the mountains and you won’t get another chance!
