Donatella Versace looked as fashionable as ever on Thursday, stepping out with Pier Paolo Piccioli at the PM23 foundation in Rome, Italy.
The designers, a 70-year-old Italian fashion icon and a 58-year-old former creative director of Valentino, recently honored the memory of Valentino Garavani, who died on Monday.
For the event, Donatella paid tribute to Valentino with a striking red suit, complete with a tailored blazer and wide-leg pants.
Oh my gosh, did you SEE her? She was absolutely towering in these incredible red platform heels, and she had this stunning Versace handbag – leather, of course, and perfectly matching the shoes! It was a look, seriously. I need those heels in my life!
Pier looked stylishly relaxed, wearing a black coat over a dark grey hoodie and comfortable sneakers, as he walked arm-in-arm with Donatella.
Donatella’s recent style choice paid tribute to Valentino’s iconic colour. The brand’s founder famously popularized the bright shade, starting with a striking red dress he presented in his debut show in 1959.
He began using the vibrant color often in his designs, and it soon became strongly associated with the Valentino name.
The celebrated Italian fashion designer passed away peacefully at his home in Rome on Monday, at the age of 93, with family nearby.
The foundation announced the sad news on Instagram, confirming that his body would be displayed for public viewing before his funeral on Friday at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome’s Piazza della Repubblica.
Valentino Garavani, famous simply as Valentino, has dressed some of the world’s most iconic women over his amazing sixty-year career, including Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, Princess Diana, and Jacqueline Kennedy.
He became famous for his perfect suits and stunning dresses, and for a specific bright red color that became known worldwide as ‘Valentino red’.
The Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giametti Foundation announced today the peaceful passing of its founder, Valentino Garavani, at his home in Tome, with his family by his side.
People will be able to pay their respects at PM23, located at Piazza Mignanelli 23, on Wednesday, January 21st and Thursday, January 22nd, between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
The funeral is scheduled for Friday, January 23rd, at 11:00 AM at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, located at Piazza della Repubblica 8 in Rome.
Gwyneth Paltrow fondly remembered a close friend who styled her for many important occasions, including the Met Gala, various Hollywood award ceremonies, and her 2018 wedding to Brad Falchuk.
She started her Instagram post by saying how fortunate she felt to have known and loved Valentino—to have seen the person he truly was behind closed doors.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed in surrounding yourself with beauty, and this man truly embodied that. He cherished his family, found inspiration in everything around him – art, nature, and even a great story. I adored him. One of my fondest memories is him playfully nagging me to just put on a little mascara before dinner! And oh, that mischievous laugh – it was utterly infectious. He just had a way of making life brighter.
It’s hard to believe this is goodbye. He touched so many lives, and I, along with everyone who cared for him, will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace, Vava.
The Oscar-winning actress often vacationed with him on his yacht with his friends.
She famously wore one of his pink dresses to the 2013 Met Gala. He also designed her white lace wedding gown when she married Falchuk seven years ago.
People quickly shared their sympathy online after the news, leaving messages of support on the foundation’s page. Supermodel Helena Christensen remembered him fondly, calling him a ‘beautiful, talented man and genius’ and sharing ‘wonderful memories’.
Valentino Garavani was born in 1932 in Voghera, a small town near Milan.
He developed a love for fashion early in life. At 17, he pursued his dream by moving to Paris to study at two renowned schools: the École des Beaux-Arts and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.
During the 1950s, Valentino trained at several high-fashion houses in Paris. He then returned to Rome and started his own fashion brand with his business and life partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, who is now 87 years old.
I was absolutely captivated when this designer launched their stunning gown collection – it was pure glamour! They quickly gained a devoted following, and I was so thrilled to learn that Elizabeth Taylor was one of the very first celebrities to wear their designs. It felt like a real endorsement of the beautiful work they were doing.
The company began selling beauty products in 1979 with its initial fragrance, and expanded into make-up in 2021.
I’ve always been fascinated by Valentino and Giancarlo’s story. They were together romantically for twelve years, but their connection evolved into something different – a really deep, brotherly bond. They ended up becoming like blood brothers, which is such a beautiful and unique way to describe their lasting connection.
