Chris Robinson and Sammy Stanton, who recently appeared on Married At First Sight, have spoken out after their wedding was featured on the show.
The couple recently shared surprising news with the Daily Mail about their unexpected pregnancy, a heated argument at a dinner party, and a surprisingly suggestive question producers asked them before they were paired up on the show.
The new couple immediately caught everyone’s attention with their obvious chemistry at the altar, but Chris was hiding a significant secret from them.
The 38-year-old, who owns a gym and a farm, is going to become a father twice: he’s expecting a child through a surrogate, and another with a lesbian friend who is using him as a donor. He decided not to share this news with Sam on their wedding night.
“This is definitely huge news,” Chris said. “But we’d only just met – he was a complete stranger. I was wondering, if this happened in real life, when do you tell someone? On the first, second, or third date?”
He confessed he intentionally stopped the conversation when Sam said he didn’t plan on having children anytime soon.
‘It does come pretty quickly. It’s just around the corner. I don’t leave it too long.’
Sam, 34, says he has wrestled with the timing.
He said he feels he should have been told what to expect beforehand.
I also understand where Chris was coming from. It was a significant thing for him to share, and he naturally wanted to feel secure in our relationship before doing so.
‘I’ve thought about that a lot and wondered whether it was the right timing.’
Despite the looming reveal, Sam insists he believes he will handle it well.
‘I think when he does tell me, I’ll receive that news well.’
Although they appeared deeply in love during their wedding vows, Sam reveals their connection didn’t feel immediate at first.
‘I wouldn’t say it was an instant connection,’ he said.
I glanced over and noticed he was attractive – he had striking blue eyes and a good appearance. But it was a strange feeling, because I realized I didn’t know him at all; he was a complete stranger.
Chris, however, couldn’t hide his excitement.
‘You can see on my face that I’ve got a really big smile,’ he said.
‘It was a very good first reaction.’
While the grooms were overjoyed to be married, they also felt some pressure being the only same-sex couple featured this season.
‘There was lots of pressure for us to make it work,’ Chris said. ‘Third time’s a charm.’
But when asked about being labelled the ‘gay grooms’, Chris made it clear he is unfazed.
‘I couldn’t really give a flying f**k I am who I am.’
Honestly, I’m just so proud of Sam for joining me on this journey. It feels incredible to be standing there, both of us as openly gay men, ready to get married. It’s a really big moment, and it means the world to me.
And in a candid moment, Chris revealed the cheeky X-rated question producers asked during casting.
‘They did ask if I slept on the top bunk or the bottom bunk,’ he laughed.
‘I answered that question accurately — and let’s just say we were matched correctly.’
While their wedding was filled with warmth, the real chaos began at the first dinner party.
The pair entered the experiment blind, unaware of existing alliances and rivalries.
Sam described how she and Chris were shocked, sitting at the end of the table and wondering who everyone was. She said they both thought the situation was unbelievable.
One contestant in particular has already sparked controversy — Tyson Gordon.
Chris confirmed that allegations of problematic comments surfaced early.
‘It was brought to my attention that he was potentially racist and homophobic,’ Chris said.
He asked for privacy and didn’t want to hear about it. It felt similar to when people tell LGBTQ+ individuals to hide their relationships.
‘As a gay man, would you be offended if someone said that to you? Absolutely.’
Sam also took aim at Tyson’s behaviour — particularly towards women.
‘What I’m not liking is seeing the way that he speaks to women,’ Sam said.
It’s incredibly frustrating that he can be polite and reasonable with me, but then completely ignores or dismisses women. It’s a really upsetting double standard.
‘I think that’s the problem with him. He really has some misogynistic values deep in him.’
The drama does not stop there.
Chris is teaming up with Gia Fleur, and Sam has become friends with Bec Zacharia, which could lead to opposing sides forming within the group.
‘The Chris and Gia versus Sam and Bec — there might be something there,’ Sam teased.
Chris admitted it created tension at times.
‘We were in a pressure cooker of an environment. Some things were said and done that we regret.’
Away from the cameras, both men insist they entered the experiment for genuine reasons.
Sam bluntly blamed Adelaide’s limited dating pool for his single status.
When I use the dating app Hinge in cities like Sydney or the Gold Coast, I easily find lots of people I’d be interested in meeting. But when I’m in Adelaide, it’s much harder to find even one person I’d want to go on a date with.
‘This was a much quicker way to do it. So I’m pretty happy that I signed up.’
Chris, meanwhile, says that becoming a father since filming has changed everything.
I’ve realized what truly matters. I’m focusing on personal growth and becoming the best parent and partner I can be in the future.
Whether that next partner is Sam remains to be seen.
With a new baby on the way, existing conflicts between cast members, and plenty of drama already unfolding, it’s clear this couple’s life won’t be easy.
Married At First Sight continues Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
