Simon Marlin, known for his role in The Shapeshifters, shared the heartbreaking news on Thursday that his wife has passed away.
The DJ shared a touching message on Instagram, calling his friend his ‘best friend’ and expressing relief that she is now at peace.
Simon, along with his Swedish partner Max Reich, makes up the house music duo The Shapeshifters, which is based in the UK.
The band first became famous with their single “Lola’s Theme,” which reached the top of the UK charts in 2004.
He shared a heartfelt goodbye on Instagram, saying today was a day he’d dreaded – losing not just a love, but also a trusted confidant, supporter, and, most importantly, a dear friend.
It was a difficult battle, and though we’re heartbroken to see you go, we’re glad you’re finally free from pain. Your memory will continue to shine on.
You’ve always been a constant support, through good times and bad, and I’m so grateful. I wish I could have helped you the way you’ve always helped me.
‘You were loved beyond measure by many and will be truly missed.
We’ll miss you dearly and remember you always, just as we did when you were with us. We’ll meet again someday, and you were truly the best friend anyone could ask for. ❤️
People expressed their sympathy in the comments, offering messages like ‘So tragic and heartbreaking, sending love and support to everyone affected.’
‘Simón, so very sorry, my deepest condolences sending love & prayers for you and your family’,
‘beautiful words …. Sending condolences x’,
‘I’m sending you so much love. I hate hearing this news. My heart goes out to you❤️❤️❤️’
The success of Lola’s Theme was an iconic part of UK club culture in the mid-2000s.
In March 2005, The Shapeshifters released their second single, “Back to Basics,” and it quickly climbed the charts, reaching number 10.
The pair continued to release singles throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s.
I’ve been watching Marlin’s career evolve, and it’s been incredible! He’s really branched out beyond his original work and is now a full-fledged DJ and music producer. He’s even running his own label and collaborating with some huge names as a remixer and producer. It’s a testament to his talent and drive!
The duo have made hits with huge stars including George Michael, Leona Lewis and Cee Lo Green.
