By the power of… gray cubicle walls?
On Thursday, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios released a first look at their upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie. The trailer reveals Prince Adam of Eternia living a mundane life on Earth as Adam Glenn, a bored office worker. Though he dreams of returning home to a world of “talking tigers, spaceships, and magical swords,” his coworkers tease him for being too interested in “nerd stuff and swords.”
Eventually, he’ll get his Power Sword back and be able to return to Eternia. The trailer depicts Adam leaving Earth with Teela, escaping his ordinary job – it’s unclear if he even quit properly!
× Travis Knight’s “Masters of the Universe” features Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, the powerful hero of Eternia. The first look at the film shows Prince Adam, who was hidden on Earth, must return home to fulfill his role as protector. We also see familiar faces like Teela (Camila Mendes), Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), Roboto (voiced by Kristen Wiig), and Battle Cat (formerly Cringer), alongside villains Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie) and Skeletor (Jared Leto).
The new movie is based on the He-Man toy line that became famous with the 1980s cartoon, “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” There was a previous live-action movie in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Since then, most He-Man projects have been animated series.
Following the success of the “Barbie” movie in 2023, Mattel’s next big film will be a new “Masters of the Universe” movie, featuring He-Man. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters on June 5th.
