Timothee Chalamet, 30, ties with Hollywood legend Marlon Brando for Oscar record after achieving rare nominations feat

After the 2026 Oscar nominations were revealed, Timothée Chalamet has been placed among the greats, joining the ranks of the late Marlon Brando.

At 30 years old, he’s the youngest male actor in decades – since Marlon Brando – to receive three acting nominations, earning the latest one on Thursday for his role in ‘Marty Supreme’.

By the time he was the same age, Marlon Brando had already received three Academy Award nominations for his roles in the films A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), Viva Zapata! (1952), and Julius Caesar (1953).

Timothée Chalamet recently turned 30 and has been nominated for an Academy Award twice. He first received a nomination for his role in the 2017 film Call Me By Your Name, and again last year for A Complete Unknown.

The actor is now competing for Best Actor against Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, and Wagner Moura.

Marty Supreme is the story of Marty Reisman, an American table tennis player who also works as a shoe salesman. He hopes to win a tournament in Britain and beat the current Hungarian champion, Bela Kletzki.

Ever since the film came out last month, many people have predicted Timothée Chalamet will be a major contender for awards because of his performance.

The highly praised actor has already won awards for his performance as a hopeful table tennis player, including recognition from the Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globes.

After accepting his Golden Globe award, Timothée Chalamet acknowledged the other nominees – George Clooney, Ethan Hawke, Lee Byung-hun, Jesse Plemons, and Leonardo DiCaprio – praising the strength of the acting category and saying he admired them all.

Now he is in the running to receive Hollywood’s highest honor.

The Academy Awards nominations were revealed on Thursday, and Ryan Coogler’s film, ‘Sinners,’ broke records by receiving the most nominations in Oscar history.

The film earned 16 nominations, including the biggest prize of the night, Best Picture.

The horror movie is among the ten films nominated for the award, alongside Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams.

Jessie Buckley is expected to be a strong contender for Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet. She’ll be competing against notable actresses including Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I Would Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia).

Fans were very upset when Ariana Grande wasn’t nominated for a supporting actress award for her role in Wicked: For Good, especially since she’d received a nomination the year before for the first Wicked movie.

The omission of “Wicked: For Good” from the nominations was a major surprise. The film received no nominations, even for Cynthia Erivo’s performance as Best Actress, Best Picture, or for its original songs – including “No Place Like Home” performed by Erivo and “The Girl In The Bubble” sung by Ariana Grande, both of which were written specifically for the movie.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress were Elle Fanning for her work in ‘Sentimental Value’, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Amy Madigan in ‘Weapons’, Wunmi Mosaku for ‘Sinners’, and Teyana Taylor in ‘One Battle After Another’.

Besides Ariana Grande being surprisingly excluded, Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t make the list for her performance in Marty Supreme either.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Benicio Del Toro for One Battle After Another, Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, Delroy Lindo for Sinners, Sean Penn for One Battle After Another, and Stellan Skarsgard for Sentimental Value.

Many believe Paul Mescal’s performance in Hamnet, Adam Sandler’s in Jay Kelly, and Jesse Plemons’ in Bugonia deserved nominations but were overlooked.

This year’s nominees for Best Director include some of today’s most acclaimed filmmakers: Chloé Zhao for Hamnet, Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value, and Ryan Coogler for Sinners.

A new award recognizing outstanding casting was announced this year. The first nominees are Nina Gold for Hamnet, Jennifer Venditti for Marty Supreme, Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another, Gabriel Domingues for The Secret Agent, and Francine Maisler for Sinners.

The films nominated for Best Animated Feature were Arco, Elio, KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amelie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2.
