Emma Stone achieved a remarkable feat with this year’s Oscar nominations, surpassing a record previously held by Meryl Streep. The Academy Awards announced its nominees today, and Stone received recognition as both an actress for Best Actress and a producer for Best Picture thanks to her work on the film Bugonia.
The award-winning actress, who previously won Best Actress for La La Land and Poor Things, has now been nominated for an acting award seven times throughout her career. At 37 years old, she’s become the youngest woman ever to achieve this, surpassing the previous record held by Streep, who reached the same milestone at age 38.
Emma Stone is the second-youngest person to ever receive seven Oscar nominations, after Walt Disney who achieved the same at age 34. She’s also made history as the first woman to be nominated for both acting and producing the same film – she received dual nominations for Poor Things.

The acclaimed actress is nominated for an award and will be competing against Jessie Buckley (for Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value).
Bugonia is the newest film starring Emma Stone and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the same director she worked with on her Oscar-winning performance in Poor Things. The story centers around a CEO who is kidnapped because her captors believe she’s an alien sent to ruin the planet.

Originally released last year, the film Bugonia is a reimagining of the South Korean movie Save the Green Planet!. It first received a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, though it now holds an 88% rating.
While Stone achieved a record this year at the Oscars, the movie Sinners also made history by receiving more nominations than any other film ever.
As a huge fan, I was blown away to see Ryan Coogler’s horror film rack up a whopping 16 nominations! It’s officially broken records, surpassing classics like All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land, which all had 14. It’s amazing to see it recognized in so many major categories, including Best Picture, Directing, the screenplay, and all the acting awards!
This year, Sinners leads with 13 nominations, closely followed by One Battle After Another. Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value, and Frankenstein each received 9 nominations.
The Academy Awards will add a new category in 2026 – Best Casting – for the first time in a quarter-century. The first films competing for this award will be Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, and Sinners.
Bugonia is available to buy or rent at home from various digital platforms.
The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s a special tribute to Dolly Parton! You can find “Dolly at 80” in shops or online for only £8.99.
