Scolina Wedding Secrets Revealed By John Boyd & Shantel VanSanten After FBI Season 8’s Big Episode

Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the latest episode of FBI! Season 8, Episode 11 just aired, and it featured a heartwarming moment as two fan-favorite characters got married.

The latest episode of FBI was a mix of triumph and tragedy. While the team managed to stop a large-scale terrorist attack that knocked out New York City’s communication and emergency services, the fallout hit close to home. Jubal (Jeremy Sisto)’s son, Tyler, was injured during the crisis, leaving the FBI leader deeply shaken as he and the team fought to save the city and its residents.

The team’s return isn’t without sadness, as they’re still grieving Dani’s death. However, the emotional weight is lifted, even if briefly, by a joyful event: Stuart Scola and Nina Chase, affectionately known as ‘Scolina’ by fans, finally get married. This is especially welcome news for viewers, particularly after the show decided to end FBI: International, leaving Chase’s fate uncertain.

To celebrate the latest episode, Tatiana Hullender from ScreenRant spoke with John Boyd and Shantel VanSanten about the big wedding episode in FBI season 8. Boyd joked that it felt like a real wedding with all the attention – “there was a lot of press, cameras, and interviews.” VanSanten added that almost everything that could go wrong during filming, actually did.

We completely messed up the first attempt at the scene! We accidentally grabbed the wrong rings – I had mine, and he had his. He tried to play it off, telling me to just keep going even though his ring was a bit loose on my finger. But then, when I went to put his ring on his finger, he stuck out his pinky! I just started laughing because it was so ridiculous and I couldn’t do it. It was a funny moment where I totally failed as an actress, but it actually helped ease some of the pressure we were feeling.

“Absolutely,” Boyd said. “You have to be careful with what you do – it could end up on TV! It’s happened before. I really thought it wouldn’t, but then it did.” Reflecting on filming the elaborate wedding, Boyd added that it was a really important moment, not just for the show itself, but for everyone involved – the cast and crew, the fans, and all of us.”

Getting married was amazing, but what really meant the most was having all of our fellow cast members there to share in the joy and celebrate how far we’ve all come together on the show. It felt like a special moment for everyone, and a way to acknowledge the journey our fans have been on with us.

The episode featured a return appearance by the couple’s TV son, Dougie, played again by the original child actor. VanSanten was thrilled to work with him on screen once more.

We were thrilled to be able to include our son in the show! It’s the same little boy we first introduced as Dougie’s son, which is rare in Hollywood – it’s usually impossible to get the same child actor back after a long time. Luckily, we’ve been filming for over four years, and the writers cleverly aged the character so he was the right age whenever we needed him. It all worked out perfectly, but on the day we filmed those scenes, it felt like a really important moment.

Everything Else Boyd & VanSanten Shared About Scolina — Before & After The Wedding

ScreenRant asked John, “We understand Scola and Nina have a strong relationship, even though they aren’t married. Can you describe Scola’s emotional state at the start of the episode?”

John Boyd believes the core of Scola’s conflict lies in accepting that someone’s passionate love for you is intertwined with their passionate dedication to their work. It’s the same person—the one who loves Scola is also driven to improve the world, even if it harms herself and their relationship. Boyd suggests Scola repeatedly hopes things will be okay as long as certain work-related issues don’t arise, but inevitably, those issues do, creating conflict. He feels Scola always starts their interactions at work with a fragile optimism, believing everything will be alright.

Shantel VanSanten explained that the show keeps viewers guessing about her character, Nina, constantly wondering what she’ll do next and what choices she’ll make.

ScreenRant points out the proposal scene is particularly touching. While it clearly shifts Nina’s viewpoint in the episode, it’s interesting that Scola already had the ring. This raises questions about whether he’d been planning the proposal and what he was feeling beforehand.

John Boyd believes the man is struggling with some unresolved issues in his relationship, even though he’s certain she’s the right person and wants to propose. He thinks working through a difficult situation – with its ups and downs – helped the man realize he was ready. Knowing they could overcome challenges together and that she’ll likely accept the proposal gives him confidence, but he now feels he should have acted sooner.

Shantel VanSanten: You waited so long, I almost got to ask you! We should have filmed that version.

I really appreciated when he confidently decided to take charge and insisted on handling things the standard way.

Now that Nina and Scola are married, fans are wondering if there are any other potential couples within the FBI universe that viewers are hoping to see together, or characters they’d like to see paired up.

Shantel VanSanten: OA’s got to find somebody. It’s just a longer journey for him.

John Boyd suggested that there could be a romantic connection for OA down the line, and he thought it would be enjoyable to try and set Maggie up with someone. He believes they should give it a shot.

Shantel VanSanten and I have a deal – I’ll play Maggie, and she’ll play OA. What I really love about Zeeko Zaki is how easily his joy spreads to everyone around him. Even though the show deals with serious and heavy topics, the cast and crew are always laughing and having fun when the cameras aren’t rolling. I’d love to see a little bit of that playful side of Zeeko shine through in an episode – just a glimpse of the person we all get to enjoy working with. It would be great to see his natural lightheartedness and laughter! That’s probably why I’m always trying to set OA up with someone – I want to see him happy and relaxed.
