Maura Higgins drops her Irish accent and sounds American in bizarre viral video from BAFTA red carpet

Maura Higgin has been living in the US for a while now, and it’s started to affect the way she speaks – she’s picked up an American accent.

A TikTok video captures the Love Island star interacting with fans while walking the red carpet at the EE BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday.

Maura, age 35 and currently on the US version of The Traitors, attended a glamorous event at The Royal Festival Hall and mixed with many famous faces.

It appeared that living in the United States had influenced her speech, and she seemed to have adopted an American accent instead of her native Irish one when speaking with a fan.

Maura is heard telling the fan ‘Hi, I’m good, nice to see you!’

When a fan complimented her appearance, Maura seemed to switch to an American accent, responding with a cheerful ‘Thank you so much!’

Maura made a striking entrance at the event wearing a sleek, red satin dress. The dress featured interesting details on the bodice and a long, flowing train that trailed behind her as she walked the red carpet.

The elegant gown was adorned with delicate black beading and paired with sheer black opera gloves and simple jewelry.

Although Maura hasn’t received any award nominations yet, she recently started her acting career with a role in the Irish comedy, The Spin.

Maura was said to have ‘impressed big Hollywood executives’ with her appearance.

Despite playing Rose in the heartwarming road movie, Maura only appears on screen for less than two minutes of the film’s one hour and thirty-two minute runtime.

Shortly after, she continued, saying, ‘Ugh, Dermot, can we please do this tomorrow? I’ve had such a long day, and I’m exhausted. Seriously, it’s been a really long day.’

After an hour of the movie passes, Maura returns to the screen and says just one more line.

The movie centers on Dermot, played by Brenock O’Connor, and Elvis, played by Owen Colgan, who are passionate about music and co-own a record shop in Omagh, Northern Ireland, that’s facing tough times.

The Irish celebrity first became well-known on the UK version of Love Island in 2019 and has since appeared in several reality TV shows in the United States.

Fans are already loving her current role on The Traitors US, praising the glamorous star for her performance.
