Troubled Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan is sentenced in 2024 DUI case

Zachery Ty Bryan, known for his role on Home Improvement, received a 16-month jail sentence on Monday after being arrested for driving under the influence earlier this year.

Bryan, age 44, was sentenced in court after reaching an agreement with prosecutors, according to TMZ reports from Monday.

As a long-time fan, I was really saddened to hear that Bryan, best known as Brad Taylor from that wonderful ABC sitcom we all loved from the early nineties through the late nineties, recently pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. Apparently, his blood alcohol content was 0.15%, which is almost double the legal limit. It’s just really disappointing to hear, and I hope he gets the help he needs.

The punishment was increased because the crime was serious, the news source reported. Adding to the former sitcom star’s troubles are two previous DUI convictions, which complicated the current case.

The judge decided against probation for Bryan and instead sentenced him to 16 months in jail, according to reports. He received credit for 57 days already served.

Daily Mail has reached out to Bryan’s production company for further comment on the story.

Once Bryan finishes serving time for his DUI, he’ll also have to address outstanding warrants related to the same incident that originated from another county.

Bryan recently explained his arrest related to domestic violence by saying it was hard to adjust from being a child star to having the responsibilities of an adult.

Police arrested Bryan in Riverside County, California on the morning of February 17, 2024, for allegedly driving under the influence. This wasn’t his first offense, as he had previously been convicted of DUI at least three times.

Authorities said that a misdemeanor contempt of court charge was also linked to the arrest.

According to a statement from Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, deputies from the La Quinta Sheriff’s Station stopped a vehicle near Washington Street and Calle Tampico in La Quinta because they suspected it was involved in a recent hit-and-run.

As a lifestyle expert, I always emphasize responsible choices, and unfortunately, a recent incident highlights the importance of that. When law enforcement officers approached the driver, they noticed signs suggesting they were impaired. This ultimately led to an arrest for driving under the influence, and it wasn’t their first offense. It’s a stark reminder to always plan ahead and ensure you have a safe way home if you’ve been drinking.

Bryan shared with TMZ in November that growing up as a child actor caused lasting emotional damage, which he believes has contributed to the legal troubles he’s faced as an adult, over twenty years later.

Bryan admitted that becoming famous at such a young age – when he was nine – created pressures he wasn’t ready for, but he emphasized that this doesn’t excuse his later decisions as an adult.

Bryan explained he’s working on improving himself to prevent similar issues in the future.

Bryan stated he understands that domestic violence is never okay. He expressed deep regret for his past mistakes, explaining they were caused by immaturity developed during a difficult childhood.

Bryan shared that he’s dealt with the difficult consequences of becoming famous young, battling addiction, and making mistakes in the past. He explained that these issues have caused pain to loved ones and resulted in several legal problems, including driving under the influence and incidents of domestic violence.

Bryan stated that the recent events, including the restraining order and the serious claims made, have been a difficult and shocking experience for him.

The actor from ‘Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!)’ said he was particularly upset by how his legal problems have caused people to question his parenting.

Bryan admitted that being called a “bad dad” really hurt, explaining that his children mean everything to him and he feels he hasn’t always lived up to their expectations.

Bryan, known for his role as Clay in the 2006 film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, is seeking help through therapy, including programs for drug rehabilitation and anger management.

Bryan starred alongside Tim Allen, Patricia Richardson, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Taran Noah Smith in 203 episodes of the show Home Improvement.

In 2022, Allen told The Hollywood Reporter he was puzzled by Bryan’s behavior. He described Bryan as a good person who had become more complicated as he matured.

Sometimes, all you can do is give someone space to deal with things their own way. He changed into someone I didn’t recognize, responding to issues that were beyond my influence or control.
