Australian filmmaker Luke Sparke is making a sequel to his dinosaur war movie, Primitive War, which first came out last year. This next film promises a more intense and darker story than the original.
Primitive War 2 takes the series to a new level, delving further into the Vietnam War and mixing it with the threat of prehistoric creatures. The sequel promises a more intense and realistic war story, building on the original’s combination of military action and horror. Following the events of the first film, a new American platoon is sent into a dangerous and chaotic valley where they face not only enemy combatants, but also deadly predators and hidden Cold War schemes. As the situation spirals out of control, their mission shifts from completing objectives to simply surviving, and the consequences of failure could be catastrophic.
When is the Primitive War 2 release date window?
Variety reports that director and writer Ben Sparke will return for the sequel to Primitive War, continuing his role as producer through his Sparke Films company. Joining him are key members of the original film’s team, including producers Carmel and Geoff Imrie (Let It Be Entertainment), as well as Carly Sparke and Alex Becconsall. The team is currently aiming to release the sequel in 2027.
According to Sparke, the first movie focused on initial discovery. This new film explores what happens when things spiral out of control – when nature evolves quicker than our strategies, and the conflict becomes less important than the consequences it unleashes.
The 2025 film is an adaptation of Ethan Pettus’s 2017 novel. It features Ryan Kwanten, known for his role in True Blood, and Tricia Helfer, a star of Battlestar Galactica. The plot follows a reconnaissance team sent to a remote island to investigate the disappearance of another unit. They quickly realize they aren’t alone and must battle terrifying creatures unlike anything the world has ever seen.
