To celebrate turning 40, Solange Knowles shared a revealing photoshoot and spoke about a painful injury that ended her aspirations of becoming a professional dancer.
Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s younger sister, toured with Destiny’s Child as a backup dancer in 2000. She originally planned to attend the renowned Juilliard dance school, but an injury changed those plans.
I remember hearing how my friend got involved with the group at a really turbulent time. Her dad, Mathew, was managing them then, and they were going through some big changes – Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin had just joined after LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson left. He basically asked her to step in and help during all the drama.
Not long after, Farrah departed, and Destiny’s Child went on to achieve massive success as a trio featuring Beyoncé, Michelle, and Kelly Rowland.
In an interview with AnOther Magazine, she shared that her original dream was to become a dancer, specifically a contemporary or modern one. She hoped to attend Juilliard and express herself through movement. She hadn’t planned on touring as a dancer with Destiny’s Child, which she did for about a year and a half before pursuing her other aspirations.
I remember when one of the dancers found out she was expecting, and Michelle had just joined the team. They really needed someone to step in and maintain the visual balance of the performances, so Michelle wouldn’t feel thrown off or uncomfortable being the odd one out. It was all about making sure she felt supported and confident.
Solange injured her knee – specifically, she tore her meniscus – while on tour. Doctors initially estimated she wouldn’t be able to dance again for about two years.
The meniscus is a C-shaped cushion in the knee, made of strong, flexible cartilage. It protects the shinbone and thighbone by absorbing shock, but injuries often require a lengthy recovery period.
Honestly, it felt like my world crumbled. I had a very clear vision for my future – Juilliard was the dream, and I had a specific plan to get there, involving attending a particular high school and nailing the audition. When things changed, it felt like that path was suddenly closed off, and it was incredibly disheartening.
While on tour with a broken leg, Solange channeled her frustrations into writing songs. Two years later, she released her debut album.
Since then, she has released three more albums, gone on headlining tours, and acted in films and television shows, including the 2006 movie Bring It On: All or Nothing.
In 2005, while on a world tour, Destiny’s Child broke up, and Beyoncé began her career as a solo artist.
Fans believe the band may be reuniting after Beyoncé’s father shared a recent photo hinting at a possible comeback.
The group members have stayed good friends since going their separate ways, and even came together again to perform during Beyoncé’s last show of the Cowboy Carter tour in July 2025.
The ladies enjoyed a surprise reunion moment, wearing chaps, glitter and gold.
I was so thrilled to see Mathew post a picture over the weekend of all the girls together again – they were all on a boat! He kept the caption super simple, just writing ‘With the ladies,’ and it honestly made my day.
Oh my gosh, Mathew was everything! He built the group, right there in Houston, Texas, back in the 90s. He didn’t just play in it, he created it and managed everything from the very beginning. Seriously, everything!
Oh my gosh, she looked absolutely incredible! Her hair was this gorgeous, bright blonde, pulled up in the cutest high ponytail. And the accessories! Those red cat-eye sunglasses? To die for! Plus, she had these amazing statement earrings that just completed the whole look. I seriously couldn’t take my eyes off her.
Kelly, 45, and Michelle, 46, posed with Mathew while wearing stylish outfits. Kelly had on a patterned blue and white silk set, and Michelle chose a cream striped dress with a unique keyhole opening in the front.
Fans are pleading with Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, for a Destiny’s Child reunion tour, expressing their hopes with a heartfelt message and a request for him to make it happen soon.
‘Matthew what are you trying to tell us…DC3.’ [sic]
‘Could DC3 be coming back?’
Kelly recently made her followers laugh out loud after playfully teasing Beyoncé’s pronunciation of a word in a new online video.
Kelly Rowland talked about how funny it was to hear Beyoncé sing the word ‘algebra’ in her song ‘1+1’. She shared this during a conversation with Scott Evans on his ‘House Guest’ show.
Scott started singing, prompting Kelly to complete the lyric: ‘Okay I don’t know much about algebra.’ Kelly playfully interrupted, laughing at Scott’s pronunciation – or lack thereof – saying, ‘It’s algebra, she didn’t say the ‘R’! She’s saving it for later.’
Scott chuckled and then shared what she’d told him: “Sing it correctly. Sing it as the original artists intended.” He then performed the line himself.
In the song, Beyoncé sings, ‘I’m not good at math, but I know that one plus one is two.’
People found the clip funny and commented about it, with one person saying Kelly is probably the only one who could playfully tease like that because it’s all in good fun.
‘Me realising now that she said ”algebaa; I mean… she did say she didn’t know much about it;
They’ve known each other like family for years, and she sounds just like one of them! It’s a sweet, personal connection – a joke only they would understand.
