The BBC’s new spy thriller, Honey, which is set in the 1980s, has revealed its cast and given fans a first look at the show. The plot is full of surprises, and it looks like it could be a popular series when it comes out!
Okay, so I’m playing this new game where I’m Martha Schmitt, an MI6 agent. It’s set in Berlin during the Cold War, and my job is basically to go undercover. The tricky part? I have to act totally normal around this new Stasi guy, Friedrich, who’s in charge of catching British spies. He’s a real threat, and keeping my cool around him is a major part of the gameplay!
Martha finds herself attracted to both Friedrich and Aaron Neeland, a daring and self-assured CIA agent who goes by the alias Kurt Fischer. Torn between the two men, she unexpectedly develops feelings for both, leading to a complicated and passionate relationship.

The cast for the show, which was first announced in March 2025, has now been revealed. Ann Skelly (known for House of Guinness), Jannis Niewöhner (Munich: The Edge of War), and Nate Mann (Licorice Pizza) will play the roles of Martha, Friedrich, and Aaron, respectively.
Rory Kinnear, Oliver Cudbill, Sonita Henry, Victoria Mayer, Valentino Dalle Mura, July Namir, Julian Niedermeier, Sofia Oxenham, and Daniel Zielinski are also among the actors joining the project, expanding the cast beyond the initial three announced.

Executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle praised Ann, Nate, and Jannis as exceptionally talented, intelligent, and intuitive performers, saying they truly stand out. She also expressed great admiration for Rory Kinnear. The new series follows Martha, a British spy working undercover in East Berlin in 1982. Constantly in danger of being exposed, she must evade suspicion from Friedrich while carrying out her mission.
Caught between the enigmatic Friedrich and the daring, yet arrogant, CIA agent Aaron Neeland (who is going by the alias Kurt Fischer), she unexpectedly finds herself consumed by attraction in a complex love triangle set against the backdrop of the Cold War.
She believes the dangers of prison or even death are far less frightening than the experience of falling in love. The idea of opening up and being truly vulnerable feels to her like an unbearable pain.

Emma Moran and Emme Hoy are writing the series. Toby MacDonald and Michelle Savill will each direct three of the six episodes. Moran, known for creating and writing Hulu’s Extraordinary, is also an executive producer on the project.
So, I heard from Deadline that this new spy show is actually a prequel to Killing Eve, which would be awesome! But the BBC hasn’t said anything official about it yet, so it’s still just a rumor. Honestly, I’m really excited, but we’ll just have to wait and see if it’s true, since there’s no release date announced yet.
Honey will air on the BBC at a later date.
