Stellan Skarsgård is famous for his roles in major sci-fi series like Andor, Dune, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as his recent Oscar-nominated work in Sentimental Value. But for a lot of people, he’s best remembered as one of the singing and dancing dads from the Mamma Mia! movies – and he plays it perfectly!
People are starting to discuss a possible third movie, and given that the first two were released in 2008 and 2018, it feels like a natural fit to release another one in 2028.
Alexander Skarsgård has hinted he might not reprise his role as Bill Anderson, though he may be saying that tongue-in-cheek.

When Gold Derby asked if he’d be open to reprising his role, the actor enthusiastically said yes, jokingly adding that getting him to the set might be the challenge!
“I’m so old, I’ll probably be dead when it happens. I’ll come as ashes and play it from an urn.”

During the interview, Skarsgård also talked about how he was when he first started acting and how he interacted with directors early in his career – a dynamic he explores again in his role as a director in the film Sentimental Value.

I’ve learned how to collaborate effectively with directors, and I’m now more committed to supporting their vision than ever before. I believe a truly great film needs a unique, personal perspective, and it’s my role to understand the director’s goals and help them achieve their artistic vision.
He said that if he could give his younger self one piece of advice, it would be to relax and not try so much. He explained that the camera picks up on forced effort, and it doesn’t translate well on screen.
Sentimental Value is available to stream on Mubi, and is still showing in select cinemas.
