Robert Aramayo was deeply moved when he won the award for Best Actor at the BAFTAs on Sunday evening.
However there was one man in the room who appeared even happier than the I Swear star, his dad.
Michael Aramayo was overcome with emotion when his son’s name was announced. He excitedly jumped up and down and immediately embraced his son.
Robert looked remarkably like his father, and it was clear as they hugged. He then went on to embrace his mother, sister, and girlfriend.
Michael appeared unable to relax while his son delivered his speech, excitedly jumping and cheering like a fan at a sporting event.
Originally from Hull, Aramayo has become well-known thanks to his roles in popular shows like Game of Thrones and The Lord of The Rings.
Michael described his son’s acceptance into New York’s Juilliard School at just 16 as a dream come true – comparing it to the feeling of learning your child had been chosen to play for Barcelona. His son was also the only British student among a highly competitive group of 4,000 accepted applicants.
Let me tell you, being at the awards show on Sunday and watching Robert accept his prize was truly something special. He was visibly moved, and in his speech, he just seemed completely overwhelmed with gratitude. He kept saying how unbelievable it all was – not just being there on that stage, but looking out and seeing people he’d admired for so long, like Leonardo DiCaprio! It was a really authentic and heartwarming moment, and you could just feel the genuine emotion radiating from him.
He expressed his disbelief and gratitude, saying, ‘I’m truly shocked and honored to receive this award. The other nominees are all incredibly talented and inspiring.’
I remember when Ethan Hawke spoke at Juilliard while I was a student. He gave a really insightful talk about having a long career as an actor – specifically, how to take care of yourself, both physically and emotionally, and avoid harmful habits. It genuinely affected everyone there.
When the camera showed the other nominees, Leonardo DiCaprio was seen clapping respectfully, and Timothée Chalamet offered a smile.
Robert had a successful evening, starting with winning the EE Rising Star Award, which is unique because it’s the only prize decided by public vote.
Also nominated in the category was Miles Caton, Chase Infiniti, Archie Madekwe and Posy Sterling.
He expressed his nervousness, recalling a previous mishap at the BAFTAs where he accidentally dropped an award. He admitted to being overwhelmed and amazed by the current moment.
I want to thank my family for always being there for me. I see my dad, my mom, my sister, and my wonderful partner in the audience.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone, especially my I Swear family, for allowing me to share your story. John Davidson is truly the most wonderful person I’ve ever known.
Robert was nominated for an award alongside some very famous actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, for his performance in the film One Battle After Another.
Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia) were also nominated in this category.
Robert won the award for his performance in the movie about the life of John Davidson, who lived with Tourette’s syndrome.
John received a Tourette Syndrome diagnosis when understanding of the condition was limited. The film portrays his early life in Galashiels, focusing on the time he first received this diagnosis.
