Sam Thompson admitted he had a few ‘super tough’ days while recovering from his vocal cord surgery.
The winner of I’m A Celebrity, age 33, recently regained his voice after a medical procedure left him unable to speak. He celebrated on Saturday, but said the last few days had been very challenging.
Okay, so he posted a selfie, and honestly, he looked so happy, but the caption… it just killed me. He said those three days were ‘super tough’! Like, I know it sounds insane, but hearing him say that… it just proves how much it affected him, you know? I’ve been following him forever, and seeing that little glimpse of vulnerability… it was everything. I just want to wrap him in a blanket and make everything okay!
He continued, explaining that he hadn’t understood how important it was for him to share his feelings and connect with others.
I’m probably just a sensitive person, and my ADHD definitely makes things feel more intense, but honestly, that was a really overwhelming experience for me.
The actor, who now hosts a podcast, had surgery to remove a cyst. He had previously joked that it was caused by overusing his voice – specifically, from shouting.
Taking to Instagram last week, Sam updated fans on how the procedure went.
Posting a selfie from home, he wrote: ‘Day 1 of no speaking… I am so bored.
‘Although I am LOVING seeing all the cat memes you’re sending!!’
This follows Sam’s earlier posts to Instagram, where he shared videos of himself in his hospital gown before the procedure.
He shared in a video that he’s undergoing surgery on his vocal cords to remove a cyst that doctors have known about for some time.
‘It’s because I talk to much and shout too loudly and I keep losing my voice really easily.
They’re going to remove it surgically, and I’ll be under anesthesia for the first time. I’m feeling pretty anxious because I don’t like the feeling of being out of control.
He lightheartedly mentioned that even though he’s 33, his sister Louise was giving him a ride home after the operation.
Louise updated everyone on her son’s condition while on her way to collect him. She explained he wouldn’t be able to speak for three days after the procedure, which she worried would be difficult for him, as he’s usually very playful and chatty.
Sam is having surgery shortly after revealing his Valentine’s Day plans with girlfriend Talitha Balinska. He had originally hoped to take her on a ski trip, but those plans fell through.
He started dating the model in September after his split from Zara McDermott in 2024.
Last month, Sam deepened their relationship by finally telling Talitha he loved her.
On a recent episode of his podcast, Staying Relevant, Sam shared with his close friend Pete Wicks that he was feeling anxious about his first Valentine’s Day with Talitha and talked about what he had planned.
Sam described his simple plans for the day: he wants to personally give her a card and roses, then cook her a romantic dinner at home with wine.
He had planned a Valentine’s Day surprise for Talitha after a romantic ski trip he’d mentioned on his podcast became impossible due to work.
“To be honest, I’m not a big fan of gifts for Valentine’s Day,” Sam explained. “I think it shouldn’t be all about presents. I’d prefer roses – not too many, because that feels over the top – but a thoughtful bouquet would be nice.”
‘Red roses, or maybe a bit of mixed actually white and a red, two dozen.’
