After Liza Minnelli publicly criticized her for seeming patronizing during their difficult Oscars performance in 2022, Lady Gaga hadn’t spoken up – so a relaxing evening with her partner was likely a welcome distraction.
Pop star Lady Gaga, 39, and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, 42, were seen leaving a private dinner at Soho House in West Hollywood on Friday. It was a rare night off for the singer, who has been busy touring since last July.
Lady Gaga wore her signature dark, gothic style: a black turtleneck with three-quarter sleeves and a short skirt that highlighted her fit legs.
She finished her look with black boots and sunglasses. Her straight, white-blonde hair flowed neatly down her back.
Her boyfriend walked behind her, wearing a simple black jacket and pants. A baseball cap hid most of his face.
Lady Gaga recently expressed gratitude to Bad Bunny for having her perform during his Super Bowl halftime show. Afterward, she got into a car with her assistant, Polansky, while the driver held the door open for them.
This public appearance follows the release of an excerpt from Liza Minnelli’s new memoir, ‘Kids, Wait Till You Hear This,’ which shares her true feelings about the pop artist.
Minnelli alleged that Gaga insisted on using a wheelchair to help present the Best Picture award and immediately capitalized on the moment to appear compassionate after Gaga briefly tripped while speaking on stage.
The award-winning actress claims she was unexpectedly told she had to use a wheelchair or not participate in the event. She was informed it was due to her age and for safety concerns – the suggestion being she might fall out of her director’s chair, which she strongly disputed. She stated she refused to be treated in that manner.
She was devastated by how things had unfolded, and felt completely sidelined – she should have been the one leading the show. It was now difficult for her to even read the script. Imagine being forced to perform in front of a live audience when you can’t see properly – how upsetting would that be?
Minnelli remembered a moment when he stumbled over his words, and Lady Gaga instantly stepped in to help. He recalled her leaning down and reassuringly saying, “I got you,” presenting herself as supportive in front of everyone.
After the performance didn’t go as planned, Gaga went to Minnelli’s dressing room to check on him, asking if he was alright. Minnelli responded with a simple, ‘I’m a big fan,’ explaining that he’d learned years ago from his parents that staying gracious is the best approach when things get stressful.
Shortly after the Oscars ceremony, Michael Feinstein, a close friend of the actress (who is Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli’s daughter), shared on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that she felt ‘very disappointed’ and believed a last-minute change involving her wheelchair had deliberately undermined her appearance.
Liza Minnelli had often said she’d never write an autobiography, famously declaring, ‘Save my story for after I’m gone!’
Initially hesitant, she decided to write her life story after becoming upset with how her and her famous mother were portrayed in the media. She wanted to set the record straight.
Lady Gaga will be back on stage soon, starting with shows at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on February 22nd and 23rd. She’ll then head to Fort Worth, Texas for performances on February 28th and March 1st. The tour will wrap up on April 13th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Polansky, an American businessman and investor who’s also worked with Lady Gaga on her music, is currently touring with her and providing support.
He met up with Lady Gaga during her performances in Paris last November and in Miami. They were also seen having fun on a yacht in Miami back in September.
Having gotten engaged in April 2024, the couple hasn’t announced a wedding date, but recently shared with Rolling Stone magazine that they feel like they’re already married.
‘We’re talking about it all the time,’ Gaga said when asked about their wedding plans.
Michael, a frequent songwriting partner of Lady Gaga, continued by saying they often have gaps in their schedules that make it tempting to consider big life events, like getting married on a particular weekend.
We’re not planning a large wedding, but we still want to have a good time. We feel pretty committed already, so the wedding won’t drastically change things for us.
Lady Gaga has expressed her desire to have a family with Polansky, saying that becoming a mother is her greatest wish.
Polansky shared that he was especially moved by Sir Elton John and David Furnish, noting that their sons, Zachary and Elijah (ages 14 and 12), are like family to Lady Gaga as their godchildren.
‘Their kids have turned out to be very happy,’ he noted.
What’s most important is creating a normal family environment where she can just be herself. Her fame and artistic life shouldn’t feel separate from her role as a partner or a mother; she shouldn’t have to hide any part of who she is.
