Zara McDermott revealed she feels really uncomfortable if she doesn’t shower twice daily, and she also brushes her teeth after every meal.
This week, the 29-year-old former Love Island contestant shared a video on her YouTube channel documenting a typical week in her life.
While talking with her fans, Zara admitted she was worried she might be overly focused on cleanliness, sharing how frequently she showers and brushes her teeth.
The celebrity admitted to showering twice daily, even though it makes her eczema worse, and she always brushes her teeth after finishing a meal.
She explained to the camera that she needs to reduce her showering to once a day. She admitted she usually showers twice, and isn’t sure if anyone else does this, but she has a strong fear of body odor.
Throughout my entire life, nobody – not a single person, not even my brother – has ever told me I have body odor. My brother is the type to be brutally honest and would definitely tell me if I smelled bad, but he never has. It’s never been brought up.
She admitted she sometimes struggles with cleanliness, explaining that she often gets into the habit of showering too much.
I brush my teeth after every meal, which my dentist really appreciates! I probably brush at least four times a day, and as a result, I have healthy teeth.
I’m generally a very clean person, and I take cleanliness seriously. It’s definitely a positive trait.
But Zara went on to reveal that showering twice a day has been causing her skin condition to worse.
She explained that having chronic eczema is difficult, and she’s recently noticed her skin condition worsening. Because of this, she decided to limit her showers over the Christmas holiday to just once a day, realizing she didn’t need to shower twice.
My eczema completely cleared up when I changed my routine, but it’s flared up again now that I’ve started taking two showers a day. I’m going to go back to showering only once a day to see if that helps.
I showered last night, but skipped it this morning, and honestly, I felt pretty awful as a result. I just felt gross.
In the same video, Zara shared that she recently found a lump in her armpit and is dealing with a health concern because of it.
Zara shared in the video that she was heading for a full body MRI scan to get a grip on her health.
Zara mentioned she had a specific concern she wanted the doctor to look at during her appointment.
Zara shared that she’d recently found a lump in her armpit, but thought it was likely just a swollen gland.
She struggled to describe her feelings about her health, initially suggesting she wasn’t overly worried, then questioning if she was even health anxious at all. She finally clarified she was simply health conscious.
I’ve noticed a small bump under my arm, and I’m not sure what it is – maybe a gland. I’m going to ask the doctor to check it out with a scan. I didn’t sleep well last night, so I’m feeling pretty tired today.
Zara mentioned that she and Daisy Tomlinson (Louis’s sister) are planning to have full-body MRI scans. She’s noticed ads for these scans on platforms like Instagram and wondered if others have seen them too.
Dais and I were chatting over Christmas about prioritizing our health this year, and we started discussing health scans. We both decided it would be a good idea to get them done together.
It’s the end of January, and after about a month of waiting, we finally have an appointment to get our scan done today. I’m hopeful about getting the results.
Later in the video, she shared an update, saying she’d just finished her scan. She showed viewers the gown they provided and joked it was her ‘outfit of the day.’ She expressed optimism about getting the results, describing the experience as pleasant and straightforward.
This recent health issue follows a similar hospital stay from over two years ago, when she underwent treatment for bone damage caused by osteoporosis.
In December 2023, she posted on Instagram that doctors had warned her she’d probably need more surgery after breaking her tibia. This additional surgery would involve using metal screws and a plate to help her leg bone heal.
Osteoporosis weakens bones, making them more prone to fractures. It currently impacts 3.5 million people in the UK.
I’ve learned that this condition usually takes years to develop, and sadly, many people don’t even find out they have it until they experience a fracture, often from a fall or bump. It’s especially common in women – in fact, almost two out of three people affected are female. It’s something I’m really aware of, and I try to share information about it whenever I can.
In November 2023, Zara shared that she had been diagnosed with the early stages of the illness.
