The Oscars Were Not Kind To Wicked: For Good Today, And There’s One Category I’m Really Upset About

The 2026 Oscar nominations included many of the popular films from 2025, such as Sinners and F1. However, Wicked: For Good didn’t receive any nominations at all. Considering the first Wicked film received ten nominations last year, I was surprised the sequel wasn’t represented at the Academy Awards this year. I’m especially disappointed by the shutout in one particular category.

Wicked: For Good Got Shut Out Of The 2026 Oscars

When the Oscar nominations for the 2026 TV season were revealed, I was surprised to see that the movie Wicked: For Good wasn’t mentioned at all. Even though it didn’t get as good of a reception as the first film, I still expected it to be in the running for awards.

Perhaps the most surprising omission from the nominations for Wicked: For Good is Ariana Grande. Despite receiving nominations, including a potential Golden Globe award in 2026, for her role as Glinda, many viewers, including myself (as noted in my review), felt she was a standout performer in the film. Her exclusion was definitely unexpected.

Interestingly, the song from For Good wasn’t nominated for Best Original Song, even though the film featured two new songs and qualified for consideration this year. Neither “Girl in the Bubble” nor “No Place Like Home” made the cut. While it’s disappointing, it wasn’t entirely unexpected, as the main focus of this category has been on KPop Demon Hunters and Sinners.

Both of those omissions were disappointing, and it’s also a shame the film wasn’t recognized for its technical achievements like production design, visual effects, or makeup. But one particular snub really bothered me, and I want to discuss it.

I Can’t Believe Wicked: For Good Didn’t Get A Costume Design Nomination

What really bothered me was the Costume Design snub. I was genuinely surprised that Paul Tazewell wasn’t nominated for his amazing work on the costumes.

Last year, the movie Wicked won two Academy Awards – one for its production design and another for its costumes. Although I didn’t anticipate For Good would receive as many nominations as Wicked did last year, I still thought it would be recognized in at least one of the categories Wicked won.

In my review of Wicked: For Good, I especially praised the stunning costumes designed by Tazewell. They were crucial in bringing the characters to life and immersing the audience in the magical world of Oz. The costumes were beautifully made, lavish, and incredibly detailed – a real standout part of the movie. I hoped the designer would receive recognition for their work, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

So, the films that did get nominated for best costume design this year were Avatar: Fire and Ash, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Sinners. And honestly, they’re all fantastic and deserving of recognition. But, if I’m being completely honest, I was really blown away by the costumes in Wicked: For Good last year, and I thought they deserved a nod too.

To be honest, I didn’t expect Wicked: For Good to be as popular as the first Wicked movie. It didn’t seem to resonate with audiences as much. Still, I believe it deserved some award nominations, and I’m disappointed we won’t see it represented at the ceremony this year.

You can watch the Oscars ceremony on ABC on March 15th at 7 p.m. Eastern Time to find out who wins!
