Netflix’s ‘BioShock’ Movie Gets Production Update From Producer

Netflix is continuing to develop its live-action adaptation of the popular video game BioShock, and they’re eager to start production soon. The project, first announced in early 2022, will be directed by the filmmaker behind the Hunger Games movies. While updates have been limited, it appears the team is now prioritizing work on this sci-fi adaptation.

Producer Roy Lee told Collider that the planned Netflix movie adaptation of BioShock will move forward as soon as director Francis Lawrence finishes his work on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Both Netflix and the game’s publisher, Take-Two, are eager to release the film around the same time as the next game installment.

We were planning to make this movie a few years ago, but other projects—like ‘The Long Walk’ and the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel, which is coming out in December—took priority. We’re now waiting for the director to finish the final editing, which will likely continue through at least September, before we can start working on it again. Both Netflix and Take-Two Interactive are eager to release the movie around the same time as any potential new versions of the game.

More to come.
