The comedy series The Middle is now popular on Netflix UK after becoming available to stream. Originally broadcast in the US for nine seasons from 2009 to 2018, the show centers around the everyday experiences of the Heck family, a relatable lower-middle-class family living in Indiana.
The new ABC show has become popular with UK viewers very quickly, currently ranking at number five – even ahead of shows like Bridgerton and Love Is Blind.
The show featured Patricia Heaton, known from Everybody Loves Raymond, Neil Flynn from Scrubs, Charlie McDermott of Unbelievable, Eden Sher who starred in Jane the Virgin, and Atticus Shaffer from Frankenweenie.

One viewer called it a “surprisingly good and wholesome family comedy,” and shared that they’ve been a fan “from the very beginning.”
Back in 2014, Digital Spy praised the show as “US TV’s most underrated comedy.” Flynn discussed why the show wasn’t getting enough recognition in an interview with them at the time.
He explained he doesn’t need personal recognition, and is happy the show is doing well and that viewers enjoy it. He also believes it’s risky to label yourself as underrated.
The show Scrubs wasn’t a massive, instant success, and that’s fine with me. I believe that when a show is constantly featured in magazines and is all anyone talks about, it’s hard to maintain that level of popularity.
After the show ended, plans were made for a spin-off series starring the character Sue. However, ABC ultimately decided not to produce it, and the project was cancelled.
Back in 2018, Eileen Heisler, one of the show’s creators, hinted at a possible return. She told Deadline that while they chose to end the series, ABC was interested in continuing it, and suggested a reboot could happen sometime in the future, playfully saying, “See you in 10 years!”
