Kate Ferdinand has shared that she’s been feeling stressed and anxious as she adjusts to living in Dubai.
The 34-year-old former TOWIE star has talked openly about the difficulties she’s faced since moving to the UAE last August with her family – her husband Rio, his daughter Tia (14), their son Cree (4), and their daughter Shae (2).
On Thursday, Kate shared on Instagram that she’s been focusing on calming down and lowering her stress hormones. She explained she’s trying to move past feeling constantly on edge.
I’ve noticed Kate’s been making some really positive changes lately! She shared that she’s consciously drinking less and has also started a new workout routine, all to help manage her stress levels. It’s great to see her prioritizing her well-being!
She wrote: ‘Let’s talk stress, high cortisol and the changes I’m making daily…
I haven’t really enjoyed drinking for a while now, although I definitely had my share back in the day! The main reason is that I’m awful with hangovers and always feel really anxious the next day, so it wasn’t hard to drink less.
Kate shared that she’s changed her fitness routine, moving away from intense workouts and now focusing on walking and Pilates.
She shared with her followers that fitness is very important to her, and right now she’s concentrating on walking and gentler forms of exercise.
The former reality star explained she’s slowing down and taking things at her own pace, instead of constantly rushing to keep up with her kids.
Kate realized, after some reflection, that she’d been rushing through everything her entire life – even everyday tasks like washing her hair. She’d always assumed it was just a result of being busy at work and at home.
The celebrity explained she’s been working on managing her stress response to lower her cortisol levels.
Cortisol is a hormone created by the adrenal glands. It helps control important functions in the body, including how you use energy, your blood pressure, your immune system, and your sleep patterns.
Long-term stress keeps your body on high alert, which can lead to weight gain, tiredness, high blood pressure, and feelings of anxiety.
Kate recently shared that she’s been finding it difficult to adjust to living in Dubai, and became emotional while explaining how much she misses her family.
She admitted that while she’s loved living in Dubai, she’s found it difficult being away from her two oldest sons, Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 17, who remained in the UK to pursue their football dreams.
In the March issue of Men’s Health UK, Rio Ferdinand explained his recent move, describing it as a new adventure. He shared that his life has always been dictated by schedules, first as a football player and then as a sports commentator.
Big changes don’t come around often. It’s rare to have the chance to try something new, challenge yourself, and really go for an adventure. This is one of those moments, and it’s exactly what we’ve been hoping for.
Kate recently told Women’s Health UK that she understands what she needs to stay mentally healthy. She shared that exercise and therapy are helpful when she’s going through a difficult time.
She admitted that feeling good about her appearance is important to her happiness. However, she emphasized that she prioritizes exercise for its benefits to her mental wellbeing.
I also want to set a good example for my kids by prioritizing my health. Seeing me work out motivates them, and that’s really important to me.
Honestly, I’m really in tune with my emotions and know what helps me get back on track. I’m a big believer in self-care, and for me, that means I’m not afraid to seek therapy when I need it. But often, a simple reset – like a walk outdoors or just chatting with friends – is all I need to feel grounded again. It’s about knowing what I need and actively taking steps to nurture my well-being.
Reflecting on their recent move last month, she explained that it felt like entering a completely new environment. However, she expressed her continued affection for London and the UK, highlighting how much she enjoys many aspects of life there.
‘I do feel happy in Dubai, but I’m just missing a part of me.’
Kate also mentioned that stepping down from his job as a sports commentator for TNT Sports last year allowed Rio to spend more quality time with his family.
She described it as a wonderful place to live, especially for kids. She said her children were doing well, seemed happy, and enjoyed having lots of outdoor freedom.
Rio is really happy here, and I’m having a good time too, but I’m also feeling homesick and a little down. I especially miss my sons and it’s been hard being away from them.
I’m confident this is the best move for my younger kids, and we’ve all adjusted well to life here. My older sons are pursuing their dreams with their football careers, which is why they aren’t living with us right now – they’re focused on that path, and we support them.
It’s really difficult, because we’re a close-knit family and have always relied on each other. This change is a big one for us to get used to.
