Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff reveals when axed Disney reboot might finally happen

As a huge Lizzie McGuire fan, I was so bummed when the Disney+ reboot fell through back in 2020. But Hilary Duff just gave us a little hope! She’s saying it’s not completely off the table, and even joked about when we might finally get to see it. Basically, we’re going to have to be patient, but maybe, just maybe, it could still happen!

The popular Disney Channel show first aired 65 episodes from 2001 to 2004. A TV movie released in 2003 featured the now-famous song ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’ and the memorable line, ‘sing to me, Paolo’.

Plans to bring it back were first revealed in August 2019, but Duff later announced in 2020 that the project had been scrapped.

So, I was reading an interview with the actress from How I Met Your Father, and she was talking about the possibility of a reunion. She was sharing how she feels about it and whether or not it could actually happen someday. It got me thinking, man, would I want to see that?

She told i-D that while she’s disappointed those ideas won’t be used, she’s also a little relieved, as she wasn’t sure she would have focused on making music anyway.

I’m disappointed we didn’t get to see what happened with her character after all. I have a good working relationship with Disney, and I mean no offense, but I think they should have considered my ideas.

I’m about the same age as the target audience, so I have a good sense of what they’d expect. I wasn’t asking for anything extreme, just for the character to feel more mature. I think the creators were hesitant to go there.

The interviewer asked if a reunion might happen someday, and her response was hilarious! She joked that while she wouldn’t consider it when she’s 40, she might be up for it when she hits 60. It was a really fun answer, and definitely left the door open a little!

There we have it – just another 22 years to go.

Last year, Jake Thomas, who used to work with Duff, told People magazine about the extra scenes that were shot before the show was cancelled.

He said he’d heard talk for years about a possible new project – maybe another movie or a TV series – but he never took those rumors seriously.

Everything suddenly clicked, and we managed to film two episodes near the end of 2019. Sadly, when we returned in January, things began to unravel.

He explained that things often happen unexpectedly in Hollywood, and this situation was disappointing. He had been excited for audiences to reconnect with the characters, but it just didn’t work out this time.

Duff is releasing her new album, luck… or something, tomorrow, February 20th. It’s her first full album in eight years, since 2015.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
