Neighbours star Rebekah Elmaloglou reveals she’s secretly related to A-list Oscar-winning icon

Rebekah Elmaloglou has connections in high places. 

During a recent appearance on the Australian reality show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, a soap opera actress shared that she’s a relative of a famous Oscar winner.

The woman shared that she’s related to the famous British actress Judi Dench – her first cousin, once removed, is the 91-year-old Dame Judi Dench.

‘Judi Dench is my mum’s cousin,’ Rebekah told her campmates on the reality show this week. 

‘I’m quite close to Finty, her daughter,’ she continued.

I’ll never forget when Stefan Dennis and I were over in England promoting Neighbours. We ended up on Pointless – it’s always been Judi’s absolute favourite show, so it was a special experience!

Stefan and I were completely lost. I kept worrying about what Judi would think – specifically, that she’d be frustrated seeing her Australian cousin struggle so much.

Judi Dench is a celebrated British actress. She famously won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1998 for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in the film Shakespeare in Love.

She’s famous for playing M in the James Bond films and has been nominated for an Academy Award eight times throughout her career.

Rebekah became well-known for her role as Sophie Simpson, a character with a difficult life, on the Australian TV show Home and Away.

I’ve been a huge fan of hers for years, and I was so excited to see her join the cast of Neighbours back in 2013! She played Terese Willis, and honestly, she absolutely killed it – it’s such an iconic role and she made it her own.

After the show ended in 2022, Rebekah moved to rural New South Wales to start a new life.

When Rebekah heard the show was being brought back, she immediately decided to move back to Melbourne to rejoin the Neighbours set for the new season on Amazon.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the popular actress, known for her long-time role on Neighbours, admitted she was somewhat frustrated by the recent changes at home.

A mother of two decided to move to the central north coast with her husband, Kane Baker, and their son, Kai, so they could live near her parents.

Okay, so after Neighbours, Rebekah tried making her own movie and went to a few auditions, which was amazing! But honestly, it ended up being a really long break for her – months where she wasn’t really working, which, as a fan, I was so worried about! It just felt like forever until her next big thing.

‘We were just grieving,’ she said over the show’s axing.

‘I was very much like, “I don’t care if I’m not working at the moment.” So I never got that far into thinking “What if there’s no work out there for me?”,’ she added.

Unfortunately, the popular show Neighbours was cancelled again in 2025, just under two years after its initial return to television.

Rebekah is one of the celebrities appearing on the current season of ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ Australia, and she’s earning between $90,000 and $120,000 for her participation.
