The BBC has offered a first glimpse of The Split Up, the new spinoff of the popular legal drama The Split. While the original series, starring Nicola Walker and Annabel Scholey, was created by award-winning writer Abi Morgan, this six-part sequel features a fresh story and new characters developed by Ursula Rani Sarma, known for her work on the Netflix series Bodkin.
Unlike the original series set in London, the new show, The Split Up, will take place in Manchester. It will center on the Kishans, a family of lawyers who represent high-profile clients in the city. The story revolves around a past family secret that threatens the firm’s future, causing chaos in both their work and personal lives.
We saw a sneak peek of the filming last October. Now, the BBC has released official photos introducing some of the new characters in the drama.

The new season of The Split Up features a fantastic cast, including Sanjeev Bhaskar (known from Unforgotten), Mawaan Rizwan (Taskmaster, Juice), Aysha Kala (Virdee), Arian Nik (Film Club), Sindhu Vee (Starstruck), Shalini Peiris (The White Lotus), and Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy, Humans).
The new photos introduce Aria Kishan, a promising young professional at her family’s company. She’s expected to eventually take over leadership from her father, Dhruv, who is played by Sanjeev Bhaskar.
More information about the story has been revealed. Following the death of Aria’s mother, Dhruv is questioning whether his daughter is ready to lead the family business. Aria’s upcoming wedding to Neal is also facing challenges, as their personal and professional lives are deeply connected, creating a lot of stress. Things become even more complicated when a past love interest (played by Dimitri Leonidas) unexpectedly shows up in Manchester.
Aria faces difficult choices as she deals with family conflicts and complicated relationships, especially with her siblings Maya and Kav. She’s forced to question who she should prioritize and live for.
The Split Up will feature some well-known guest stars, such as Lenny Henry (from Three Little Birds), Jane Horrocks (known for Absolutely Fabulous), and Jameela Jamil (of The Good Place).
The BBC has not yet announced a release date for The Split Up.
