Team voice chat is coming to League of Legends

League of Legends is reportedly adding voice chat that will allow you to communicate with your whole team, even if you didn’t group up with them beforehand. Here’s the latest information.

League of Legends is finally adding a feature many players have asked for: team voice chat! Here’s a rundown of what it will offer and when you can expect to start using it to communicate with your teammates.

Team voice chat in League of Legends soon

League of Legends is getting a new voice chat feature! While League has had voice chat before, this update lets you communicate with your entire team during a match, not just those in your pre-game lobby.

Rest assured, this feature is completely optional. You’ll need to turn it on yourself in the settings, specifically within the Voice section. We’ve included a screenshot from the public beta version below to help you locate it.

If you still need convincing, data experts have discovered evidence suggesting this is a complete, intentional system, not just a random update.

The image shows a section labeled “parties_comm_panel” with two tabs: “PARTY” and “TEAM”. Because it also includes a “VOICE” heading, this is probably related to voice chat within a game.

League Voice is here to stay, but we’re updating the entire system to make team communication even better.

The settings will also let players choose a key to use for Push-To-Talk (PTT). You’ll be able to assign separate keys for talking with your party and with your team, if desired.

We’ve added a new section to the report screen called VOICE COMMS ABUSE. This is for reporting bullying, harassment, threats, and hate speech that happens during team voice chat. With Riot Games recently improving how they handle negative behavior in-game, they likely felt ready to launch this feature on all servers.

Voice comms in LoL: What to expect

Voice communication features have been available in League of Legends since 2024, but initially only for players on the Chinese server.

A post by Reddit user u/lol_dango in r/leagueoflegends outlined the features of this voice comms.

The new update lets players mute their own microphone and control the volume of each person on their team. You’ll still be able to see who’s talking even if you’re muted. This feature replaces the current League Voice system and can be hidden by clicking the headset icon.

When is voice chat going live on LoL?

Voice communication might be available in League of Legends as soon as Patch 26.5, planned for release on March 4, 2026. Major updates, such as the new WASD control scheme, often spend more than one testing cycle on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) before being officially launched.

If I’m being honest, I’m super hyped to try this new stuff, so I’ll probably jump onto the PBE server and let the developers know what I think. But if I’m a little more patient, I can just wait for it to officially launch on the live servers – that’s always an option too!
